The first results are coming in for the referendum to decide whether Scotland should stay in the UK or become an independent country.

Yeah, if the bigger cities are saying NO too, this is all over but the crying and teeth gnashing and the lamentations of the Yes Women.
These “live” threads are the best of FR, IMHO.
Thanks for this one.
yes... Cameron already said they’d get more autonomy... now Cameron faces Parliament to make that happen. lol
Socialists always seem to get trounced at the ballot box.
So much for Sweden on the North Sea.
That's the part that really sticks out for me - that's a sandbag. But which direction? On the one hand, young people "want to be independant." On the other hand, TOO young of a person "wants to get along" and also doesn't want to lose their familiy identification. So I believe some extremely professional level metrics were done on this issue by whomever pushed for this age of voter, in order to swing the election to their choice - apparently to "no."
They reduced the voting age to 16.
But teens apparently didn’t buy it.
NO | Votes 1,031,472 - | 55.32% |
---|---|---|
YES | Votes 833,031 - | 44.68% |
TARGET TO WIN | Votes - | N/A% |

What does the Koch tartan look like?
Glasgow results are coming.
You mean they didn't vote, or that they voted No? Because if they voted it seems to be No.
Big thumbs up!
Thanks for the insight.
I like that Scottland has been given, or has taken this opportunity.
I have mixed thoughts on independence. I can see clear reasons for it.
If you wouldn’t mind sharing your thoughts on it, I’d like to read them.
If not, I understand. I have no axe to grind either way.
Look at the margin -
Independence being crushed by double digits!
And to think the “Yes” side had victory in the bag a few weeks ago.
Never count your chickens before they hatch.
The kids apparently voted “no.”
Socialism is wasted on the young.
Agree! Thank you!
BBC announcer said that Glasgow has been hit harder than many areas with deprivation, or he said something to that effect.
Glasgow returns with only 75% turnout voted 53% Yes to 46% No
From BBC coverage on C-Span:
Yes 1,055,716
No 1,256,372
The BBC commentators are now saying that the Yes votes can’t overcome the No vote margin.
Call it....
Wow, I didn’t expect that. I figured it would pretty much be a squeaker either way.
70 to 35, that’s way outside my perception before the vote.
Just a few days ago, the media had me thinking it was going to happen.
Did the media want to see independence happen?
It won’t be enough to make up the difference in the rest of Scotland because its too small and when Edinburgh comes in, it’ll be nowhere near enough.
Sky News have called it for the “nays.”
