Its been way above $4 a pound around here (Western MA) for a long time.
I hadn’t done the shopping for a month. The price changes were staggering when I went back at it a few weeks ago.

I don’t buy fresh beef. Price is outrageous.
I can get 8 frozen patties for slightly more than the cost of a single pound of raw ground beef.

Ours too - because we are burning cattle feed in our cars.

Gotta be rich today to afford red meat, ground meat, and the like.
These luxuries are limited to those with EBT cards.

Have you seen the price of beef??
Have you seen the price of butter??
Have you seen the price of milk??
Yeah, no inflation. The Obama economy is just great.
Excluding fuel and food the CPI is way down, right?

Chained CPI - if the price of steak goes up, folks will change to ground beef. If the price of ground beef goes up, people will change to hot dogs. And if the price of hot dogs go up, people can start eating grass. So there is no inflation.
So shut up, eat grass, and enjoy the stable economy that Washington and the International Bankers have given us. The economy is going great. Big Brother says so.

The meat that costs $4 is the meat that always used to cost half as much as ground beef — the factory sludge made from canning grades that tastes like garbage and is full of bone chips. If you could find good ground beef like we used to have, it would cost $8.
To: C19fan
we are lucky if we can afford a steak once a month today. Must be nice for those who don’t pay for their food and get steaks and fish.

Those on the left are wee weeing their pants that Big Beef is being taken out by high prices. They have been wanting the beef industry gone for years. The vegetarian diet craze is the result of their war on beef. They see it as a health menace just like tobacco. However, that’s a cover for their desire to eliminate an avenue of private enterprise from the individual.

The scarcity is artificial, but it further confirms the worthiness of the plutocrats. Are they all Democrats? No. They support both parties. Are they the food stamp recipients and homeless? No. Food stamp recipients and the homeless don't have enough influence to control politics or sponsor the "news." Are they among the imported hordes of foreign slaves? No. It's not them, either.
Who is "low information?" Think about it.
The problems are caused by regulations and wrongful fees against most people engaging in productive activities. For example out of millions, a very old ranching couple was recently deprived of nearly all that they owned over false allegations of neglect of cattle.
Have fun. Enjoy the slide.

I can’t even find a pound of ground beef. All the local grocery stores have disguised the price increases by selling 10-12 oz packages, which really screws up recipes.

A friend who used to own a restaurant gave me his recipe for cooking a beef brisket, so when I went to the grocery store last week, I asked the butcher if they ever got briskets in. He had two, but when he showed me the price, both of us almost dropped our teeth. $7.99/pound, untrimmed (with fat cap) — so since it was a little over 7 pounds, the price was nearly $62.00. For a single brisket?!?! Butcher said, no wonder they weren’t selling. DUH.
