Although there seems to be an endless stream of stories about NFL player arrests and misconduct, this is largely because there are a lot of NFL players (and they’re famous). At the league’s peak (during training camps), there are about 2,560 players attached to NFL teams (limit 80 each). As I’ll show, arrest rates among NFL players are quite low compared to national averages for men in their age range — but there are some types of crimes that trail the pack significantly.

Yes. They get away with a lot of crimes and are never charged.
Given the entitlement attitude that characterizes most athletes, I’m surprised the numbers aren’t higher.
I remember back to my high school days when there was one set of rules for the jocks (basically none) and another set of rules for the rest of us. When you grow up thinking you’re bulletproof . . .

I wonder if these stories are good for ESPN’s ratings. Generally, I’ll watch just about any sporting event on ESPN, but when they have their 30-minute-long hand-wringing sessions about Ray Rice or whatever other “moral” issue they get their panties in a bunch about, I change the channel.
I mean, I watch ESPN to get away from all the PC BS in the media, not to be doused in even more of it.

You answered your own question. Two sets of rules.
Nice try. As we’ve famously found out in this case, Rice was charged with a third-degree misdemeanor and “diverted” out of the usual flow toward the big house for what certainly would be a trial and jail for the rest of us.
I dare to suggest that similarly, an offense that would get most of us arrested is often seen as less offensive when the rich NFL player gets a fancy lawyer to explain it away.
The NAGs still won’t be happy until every player on the NFL is “neutered” and put on female hormones....

Also unacknowledged is the cultural dynamic which in the black community is a higher inclination and acceptance of violence.

Me too. Now when I see most of them on Facebook or hear a bit of gossip about them, 99.9% of the time it’s not good to horrible.

If we compiled statistical data associated with past presidents we would be forced to recognize that there is a high rate of misogyny (Clinton, Kennedy, others), rape (Clinton), bigamy (Jackson), homosexuality (Obama) and adultery (Clinton, Kennedy, and a lot more) and that these people should be pre-persecuted like NFL players.
Even the FBI Crime report from as recent as 2013 say overall violent crime in the United States is at a 20 year low.
Then compound the fact that the NFL crime rate compared to rest of society is very.
That tells you the entire story that the media, led by ESPN, is full of crap. It's a bunch of nonsense.
It's the same sort of crap where the media hype Shark attacks that are about 5 a year. All this news about sharks.
However, Honey Bees kill WAY MORE people a year than Sharks.

IMO, like many professional athletes, NFL players have been pampered and primped, coddled and spoon fed starting at an early age since they demonstrated some athletic ability sufficient to become “winners” for what ever team they aspired to. It starts when they are in high school, possibly before. A coach sees some kid with great potential who might help his/her team become winners. The problems begin when said coaches (or others) “look the other way”, give special favors and do whatever it takes to keep that kid playing on their team. The kids get used to the special treatment and begin to think they are better and more important than others. Hence, they begin to test the waters, “flex their muscles of superiority” and over time, get to the pros where suddenly they a “stars” in the publics eye and think they can do no wrong. They have become products of what those who brought them up created, spoiled brats making lots of money. Still believing they can do no wrong, they turn to more serious problems such as drugs, beatings, robbing and even murder.

Well, while I agree with you 100%, he plea-bargained to a lesser charge and pled guilty. He should be doing life without parole.
