President Barack Obama would seek to overthrow the regime of Bashar al-Assad if American planes were attacked upon entering Syrian air space, Peter Baker of The New York Times reports.
If Assad's troops fired at American planes entering Syrian airspace, "Obama said he would order American forces to wipe out Syria’s air defense system," Baker reports. "He went on to say that such an action by Mr. Assad would lead to his overthrow, according to one account."

I imagine Assad will have some trouble trying to figure out Barry’s policy. After all, it doesn’t make sense to any one.
As far as I can tell, we will act as an aerial blue hat force....allied with the newly cannonized ‘good rebels’....and simultaneously opposed to Assad as rebel allies, and also sharing I terests with Assad against the ‘bad rebels’. All the while stubbornly sticking to the belief that there will be no overlap between good and bad rebels....which is a fantasy.
Will Assad respond to all rebels in the same manner? Or will he play along and allow free passage of US jets? I imagine he will - until US jets start hitting his RADAR etc. Barry can’t just say he did it on behalf of the good rebels, but we’ll turn around and help Syria make up for the lost RADAR if ISIS attacks. At some point Assad may have to react directly to our forces. Don’t think he has much of a chance of taking out a jet though. Probably just bribe a goid rebel to show him whose lasing the targets and kidnap a few US soldiers. Heck he may even turn around and sell them to the ‘bad’ rebels.

But then again, his opponents also have the means to fire on our planes.

Sounds about right. Assad “shoots down” an American plane so Barry can play macho and overthrow the very bad man.

Why would Assad shoot at the planes destroying his enemies? Assad would supply targeting information against the rebel alliance.

I misread the headline—I thought it said if Assad shot down our planes it would lead to Obama’s Overthrow! It might—if IS manages a major attack—ot takes Baghdad.

And die. You don't think our pilots would detect a Syrian? After their experience with the Israelis, the last thing they would do purposely is screw with an American strike package.
If I were a Syrian military I wouldn’t trust Obama a little bit.
First, he sends McCain to pet ISIS and ships loads of weapons to jihadis to kill Syrians and now he says Syrian military to step aside, let as bomb your country as far as you guys aren’t capable to solve a problem.
Now imagine if a US Southern border problem was caused by a third party and it says sorry Obama, you are a loser and can’t solve it, we are bringing jets and troops to California and don’t dare to shoot at them, we are here to help your incompetent butt out.
I think Syrian concerns are legit to say the least.
