The Pennsylvania trooper killed in a Friday night police barracks shooting was a hardworking, stand-up guy, his friends say.
Now, Bryon Dicksons heartbroken friends and family will lay him to rest.
The father-of-two was the only officer killed when a gunman "ambushed" police barracks in Blooming Grove Township during a trooper shift-change, State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said at a Saturday press conference. A second trooper, Alex Douglass, was also injured.
And the killer could still be on the loose. An overnight manhunt lead to the questioning of a person of interest but no suspects.
Gov. Tom Corbett wanted to visit the area, but officials warned him to stay away when a a very dangerous, armed criminal has not been caught, the Times-Tribune reported.
Still, State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan assured residents the shooter is not believed to be dangerous to the public.

"He was very, very work oriented," Melissa Contorno, a friend of the Dickson family, said. "He was all about it. He was a stand-up guy.
He leaves behind a wife and two sons: a kindergartener and a second-grader.
This is a traumatic event. It has touched us to the core that such an event can happen, Noonan said.
The gunman escaped after the 11 p.m. shooting, and law enforcement officials from New York and New Jersey descended on northeastern Pennsylvania to help with the search.
On Saturday morning, police named a person of interest and detained him for questioning.
He is not in custody and has not been charged with any crimes, Trooper Connie Devens, spokeswoman for Troop R in Dunmore, told the newspaper.
Corbett ordered flags in the area to be flown at half-staff in Dicksons honor, WNEP reported.
Every attack on an officer of the law is an attack on our state, our country and civilized society, he said in a statement.

Jihad or Fergonsonitis?
Mebbe....mebbe just a Pennsyltucky redneck pizzed off for being cited on a traffic stop.
Pike County is a bedroom community for NYC.
I expect to see more of this. And not just people fed up with police. The government apparatus has annoyed a lot of people, and voting doesn’t seem to make a difference. If the ballot box has failed, people will seek other boxes.
No hint that it is Fergonsonitis.
Cops around here are jumpy about past DUI offenders they have prosecuted, could be something along those lines if not a personal attack due to domestic issues.
...or just plain mistaken identity.
Still, State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan assured residents the shooter is not believed to be dangerous to the public.
So, we're to believe he's just "very dangerous" to the Governer. Boy, some politicians are so damn stupid.
What do you mean "could"? Either he is or isn't.
Fergusonitis...thanks, I’ll be using that from now on.
See tagline
During the Ferguson, MO riots, there was talk about “bringing it” to “Whitey’s” neighborhoods, so right now anything’s possible.
RIP. I didn’t know you sir, but thank you for your service. May the Lord give you and your family His peace.

... and they believe this, why??
It is a Jihad Technique of ISIS in Iraq to sniper attack Iraqi police/security coming and going from their stations prior to the main attack. This was a big reason many Iraqi Police/security initially fled leaving towns basically undefended. The Jihadis posted lots of videos showing this tactic.
I agree. People don't like being bullied. When overwhelming power is unnecessarily used against people, they will resort to these guerrilla tactics to strike back.
I remember years ago, a couple black men were hiding in auto trunks firing through a peephole randomly shooting white people. That was freaky and scary.
But you’re mistaken. It was an angry middle aged white guy in a white panel van. Didn’t Chief Moose tell us so?
“Fergusonitis...thanks, Ill be using that from now on.”
Fergusonitis sounds like bowel infection. I think he probably meant Fergusonistas.
