What I Learned on the CBS NFL Pregame Show
The Rush Limbaugh Show ^ | September 12, 2014 | Rush Limbaugh

RUSH: Last night was incredible. I didn't know what time the pregame stuff started on CBS. The game started at 8:30, and I thought, "Well, okay, pregame stuff will start at eight o'clock." So at about a quarter 'til eight I turned on the tube to get ready for it and I found myself in the middle of the most incredible pregame show of a football game I've ever seen.

Now, remember, yesterday was 9/11. Ray Rice and Roger Goodell in the media trumped 9/11. Ray Rice and Roger Goodell trumped football. I don't know about the rest of you guys out there, but I'm starting to get it. I'm starting to hear. It's starting to connect. I'm not doing enough to stop wife beating. Wife beating is an epidemic. It's happening all over the country, and it's really, really happening in the NFL, and we are all responsible for it. And we have got to do something about it.

I have learned that I am not aware enough, that my conscious has not been raised enough, that I am not worried or concerned enough about this, that it is an epidemic, and that it's happening all the time. Why, I learned that just since Ray Rice cold cocked his fiancee in the elevator, 600 women have supposedly died from wife abuse since February. I heard that on CBS in the pregame show last night. I heard that from James Brown, who I think wants to be the Bob Costas of CBS. Maybe he wants to be Bob Costas, period.

I've also learned, as I predicted, football is politics. Football has jumped the shark and has now become politics.

The pre-game show was repulsive.
I muted it, and turned on my iPod to catch up on Rush until kickoff.

Football is politics?

That's a laugh. It's ENTERTAINMENT.

Politics LOOKS and SOUNDS like entertainment but it is our way of life and the structure of our government from the grass roots to the Congress to the Executive.

Oh, I forgot, football is the breath of life for BOOKIES.

First, Big Oil.

Then Big Business.

Now the Left has a new bogeyman: Big Football.

Why must they ruin everything?

CBS has such a boring pregame show. It’s a snoozefest unlike their counterparts on FOX and the NFL network. I think JB went to Harvard, so it figures.

I have learned awhile ago to simply not watch any pre-game. ESPN is history as well, unless there is a game on., And some cases, muting the tv and listing in radio anyway.

In fact, I’ve dumped most tv these days. And for that, I’ve found my life much more productive and satisfying.

Hitting women is just wrong, but sometimes you just want to choke them. (and they want to choke us)

"Football has jumped the shark and has now become politics."

All my local sports-talk guys could talk about all day was Ray Rice and Roger Goodell. If only the media were half as interested in examining Obama and the IRS.

It left me very uncomfortable. It's beginning to come out that the abuse was being addressed through court-appointed counseling, as an alternative to criminal charges. Considering those circumstances, it should be a private matter and not affect Rice being allowed to play.

If they are working it out, the publicity is counterproductive and hurtful.

people watch professional sports in order to escape daily work drudgery and politics.

If sports become political then they’ll get bored and then there will be no reason to watch sports.

rush is hugely hugely political however he understands sports better than the sports managers.

What is more, probably the average person walking down the street does also.

sports better than sports professionals sports better than sports

Now the Left has a new bogeyman: Big Football.

The Left has targeted football since the days of Teddy Roosevelt.

Football promotes racial harmony, community pride, and family values. It has also made black Americans millionaires.

The Left hates all of that, so the game has to be destroyed.

Back in the 90s I subscribed to The Sporting News. Back then there was no internet to get stats and stories. But the columns became more and more about about sports as “social justice.” I let the subscription lapse.

The Ray Rice deal is just a continuation of that. Now everyone is expected to spout the politically correct Party Line and say “Everything is awesome.” If you don’t your career is OVER.

My husband and I were married in 1975. He was a mechanical engineer. There were NO mute buttons in those days. Tuning out required getting BUTT off the sofa and walking over to the T.V.

So, one day, in 1976 my very smart and very sweet husband got a 20' wire and hooked it up to the back of the T.V. At the other end, which he put in my hand, was a small metal and plastic box: 2 inches by 3 inches, or so.
The box had a switch, like a light switch. One side was ON and one side was OFF. He had made me a MUTE BUTTON!!

He made the switch with a loud CLICK because he liked the idea of HEARING that sound of the switch. I did too.

Ray Rice: prison time.

Mrs. Rice:
1. Divorce lawyer
2. Shrink to find out WHY she put up with the beatings for so long...a shrink who won't let her get away with "...But I looooove him."
