Draven Rodriguez, a senior at Schenectady High School in upstate New York is petitioning his school to allow him to use his unique cat-and-laser photo as his senior yearbook portrait.
I dont want to go in the yearbook with the generic I-look-like-everyone-else photo, Rodriguez told the Daily Gazette. I wanted a He looks great. Only he would try that photo. Rather than a classic and generic senior portrait, the 16-year-old is submitting a photo that features both himself and his beloved cat, Mr. Bigglesworth.
His petition reads:
Hi all. This is my photo that should be going into the yearbook, but we know how finicky the school systems can be. Im hoping that with enough signatures, my school simply cant turn this down.
Edit: To clarify, the school HAS NOT YET DECLINED this photo. This is my pre-emptive strike just in case such a thing were to happen. I wanted as many backers as possible before the deadline of September 15th.
Photo creds to Vincent Giordano, who took and edited this photo. When Rodriguez created the petition, his goal was to get 500 signatures, but due to national media attention (and because the Internet cant deny a good cat story!), he has surpassed that goal seven-fold, with nearly 3,600 having signed as of Friday morning.
Though the deadline for photo submissions hasnt yet passed (its Monday, September 15), school district spokeswoman Karen Corona said that the photo is permitted for use in the yearbook, but that will not appear in the portrait section.

At his age, he should be. I was a sensitive kid and even I know that.
Is that a picture of a schoolboy playing with his...kitty?
May be under the headline of “Most Likely to Remain a Virgin”
Nice Kat. Seems fine to me. If I were the editor, I might put the Kat on the cover, too
Thats definitely the only one hell ever touch.

Post of the day! Yes sir, laugh out loud funny.
Three guesses as to what 3 letters XXX stands for............
This will not age well.
Yeah...we all love our pets too.
But seriously son, we are not going to accept that picture of you for the yearbook. The format is as a singular portrait.
If we allow you to do this, then is gives standing to the next idiot who wants special treatment.
It’s ... different. I like the cat.
There’s Catwoman, and there are Cat Ladies, is there such a thing as a Cat Man?
Usually a bowl of 9-Lives does the trick, I guess he tried that already.
“And frickin’ laser beams too — I approve.”
Camels, sheep, goats...goldfish?
Kitteh looks like a classic Maine Coon. Kewel.
Does “Jeff Dunham” have a Cat Dummy now?
He may have a cat, but here’s guessing he’s never had p.......... Oh never mind.
Beautiful cat - but he doesn’t look particularly happy.
