SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah elementary school teacher who was carrying a concealed firearm at school was struck by fragments from a bullet and a porcelain toilet when her gun accidently fired in a faculty bathroom on Thursday, officials said.

The sixth-grade teacher at Westbrook Elementary School, in the Salt Lake City suburb of Taylorsville, was injured when the bullet struck a toilet and caused it to explode, Granite School District spokesman Ben Horsley said.

Authorities initially thought the teacher had accidently shot herself. They now believe she was injured when the bullet and toilet fragments struck her lower leg.

WTF is it with all the Glock paranoia on this friggin site? Don't trust yourselves with a weapon? A Glock trigger is pretty hard to pull and has a long travel. Keeping yer booger hook off the bang switch and making sure the fool thing is unloaded before you clean it goes a helluva long way.
No weapon safety system can overcome human stupidity. Which is apparently rampant even with so-called "experts". Went off while attempting to field strip? Sounds like some dipstick "expert" isn't that much of an "expert" after all. /rant d:^)

A Glock trigger is pretty hard to pull and has a long travel.

I wouldn't rely on that. Especially not compared to a double-action pull. It's possible to get one which has a lighter trigger (police usually specify heavy).

Usually the Glock AD I hear tell about are finger-traps. Holstering in condition one is a common and reasonable (whereas disassembly in condition one is surely not). In the AD scenarios the trigger finger normally kept up and pointed straight is forced into the trigger guard (by a protruding edge or something) as the Glock descends into the holster . The momentum of the piece comes to bear on the trapped finger via the trigger. BAM!

BTW I have 20 Glock 17 mags because I got tired of reloading at the range.

Cops frequently drop their pistols in the porcelan pot. Results are similar.

I remember going to the latrine armed to the teeth. Never shot myself, at least.

Maybe the gun was trying to speak into the big white telephone. Was Ralph hurt? Were any Buicks bought?

I’m thinking the new Glock Gl 42 (.380) is going to have some negligent discharges. People not used to concealed carry will jack a round in the chamber, then drop the little Glock in a pocket or purse.

No it isn’t. She knows nothing about guns but that shouldn’t mean that the thousands of other teachers shouldn’t have guns.

Oops, my $#!, the gun accidentally fired? Horse manure, either she pulled the trigger or she was carrying with a round in battery and dropped it from a sufficient height so as to cause it to discharge. This is all the teacher, I have yet to read of a gun that fired itself.

Second amendment guarantees guns. Proper training works. Not restrictions.

I purchased my first gun right after Obama’s 1st election. After some research, I bought a pistol that woudn’t fire if dropped, and wouldn’t fire without the handle being gripped. That should be a requirement for pistols in schools.

“Usually the Glock AD I hear tell about are finger-traps. “

I’ve also heard of cases where the trigger gets caught on clothing while the gun is being holstered, and people react by pushing down harder.

IMHO the generally best CC weapon is a short barreled DA revolver with a shrouded hammer. A Glock is just too touchy and accident prone.

But at least a Glock can hit a target further than 3ft in front of you as opposed to a short barreled DA revolver.

Where’d she have that thing holstered?

Good question. It’s not even clear she had a holster.
