As so many in the general public have witnessed, I watched the video involving Ray Rice and his fiance (she is now his wife), Janay Palmer, and the assault which occurred at an Atlantic City, New Jersey casino.
There are two facts which I find disturbing surrounding this case. After viewing the video I read some of the comments in response to the footage.
A number of ppl actually blamed Ms. Palmer for the altercation, or stated that she "had it coming" due to her supposed drunkenness. How they came to the conclusion that Ms. Palmer was drunk is beyond me. Apparently staring at a grainy video for a few seconds is proof enough to determine whether or not an individual is intoxicated despite the fact that the woman isn't stumbling about with a bottle of brew in her hand while singing '99 Bottles of Beer'.
Let us say - for the sake of argument - that Ms. Palmer was drunk. Would that fact justify Ray Rices assault of Ms. Palmer? Mr. Rice spat on the woman at least twice before they entered the elevator. While in the elevator, he spits on her yet again when she finally responds to his behavior. He then cold-cocks her.
The kind of "logic" which leads ppl to believe that, "Hey, she was drunk, so she had it comin'" is the same type of logic which leads this country to further moral depravity.
Secondly, why did it take a video before the Ravens fired Ray Rice? A two game suspension for assault?! I guess money and wins trumps assaulting a woman. The only reason the Ravens decided to fire Ray Rice was because they knew the public backlash would be tremendous.
A players contributions to the team and a winning season should never trump a players criminal behavior. The NFL as well as the Ravens should be ashamed for perpetuation such behavior by players committing crimes against innocent ppl.
This incident is a shining example of one reason I have less interest in a lot of professional sports.
What say you?
I’ve had girlfriends drunk or just pissed of in general swing at me and I’ve never felt the need to swing at them to get them under control. Very few women are threatening enough to a man to have to be punched, IMO.
My answer to such a situation was to bear hug them and put them under control. Simple and effective and no harm done to anyone.
Sorry for the momentary steering into a brief detour.
Pox, punching a drunk woman let alone a drunk human is pointless. Furthermore, no man is justified in striking a woman unless his life is in immediate danger.
The bear hug approach is a good option.
Thank you, re_nortex, for the great reminder. I hate it when I forgot this important fact. I owe you big time.
(no sarcasm intended)
I don’t care that she was allegedly drunk and/or took a swing at him. I just think she’s an idiot for subsequently marrying him. He’s demonstrated on that video that he’s a vicious brute and someday he’s going to strike her again. Next time, she might not survive.
Whatever the circumstances, they’re both losers and I think they deserve each other.
Good question, they kept Ray Lewis after all..............
“The bear hug approach is a good option.”
Beware of her knees, though! ;)
I failed to see her take any swing at Ray Rice. The fact that she went on to marry him doesn’t say much about her judgement. I have no doubt that if there is another assault, ppl will be less inclined to express any pity for Mrs. Rice. I do feel sorry for their child.
Again and thanks for the reply, FRiend! God Bless you and good night.
Precisely. I’m sure this would all change if a video shows up. /s
You speak as a man of experience. :^)
Rice beats his fiance, Michael Brown grabs a much smaller store clerk by the neck. One generates outrage and the end of a career, the other generates sympathy riots and I don’t mean for the clerk.
Yeah, sure, the riots weren’t about the robbery but rather the shooting. Nevertheless, the store video never touched Saint Swisher.
Good night, re_nortex
The knees are to be wary of, and twice I got caught not paying attention and learned the hard way to quickly spin them around, but as painful as that was each time, it fades quickly and still never brought me to the point that I felt I needed to punch either.
There may be a place and time to have to swing at a woman, but I was brought up right and would never consider such an action without there being a reason to protect myself from imminent death I suppose.
Basically, no reason to swing at a woman unless that woman is getting ready to either maim or kill you, and even then I would probably hesitate due to my upbringing, but more than likely survival instincts would kick in and you have to do what you have to do.
As far as the Ray Rice video goes, no possible way could I ever see that as being justified, and she is an idiot to stay with him.
rice was emulating RAPPERS like alsharpton
And yet she marries him. So now what ? She need therapy as well ? Not saying its right by any means, but she married him after the fact. Sorry, for me, let it go, its their problem. It doesn’t speak well for a role model, but there are many sports models that did worse.....The video did him in....aren’t you glad you didn’t have a video following your entire life.
huh, that lefty woman on Hannity’s radio yesterday never mentioned Rice instigating the assault by spitting first.
In all fairness, NonValueAdded, one incident involved the death of an individual. Mrs. Rice was not shot to death. The MB case had already been ignited with passions due to the fact that he was killed. So I can understand why the reaction to the video was not one of outrage over the clerks treatment.
