GENEVA, Sept 8 (Reuters) - The Ebola virus is spreading exponentially in Liberia, where many thousands of new cases expected over the coming three weeks, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Monday. In a statement, the WHO said that motorbike-taxis and regular taxis are "a hot source of potential virus transmission" in Liberia where conventional Ebola control interventions "are not having an adequate impact". The United Nations agency said that aid partners need to scale-up current efforts against Ebola by three-to-four fold in Liberia and elsewhere in West Africa. In Liberia it had killed 1,089 people among 1,871 cases, according to the WHO's update of last Friday.

And hospital and MD waiting rooms as well...
Does Obama want to send American soldiers over there to ‘help’... help get infected then bring it back here?
DBrow:" Stop all flights out of the area, secure the dock areas against people leaving by sea, lock it down. If ONE case gets traced to traveling by air, the airline market will collapse anyway."
Contaigon by fomites , casual contact in public transportation , etc.
Rumor has it that Ebola is in Italy via refugees , but the government there is surpressing the information since this is still their 'tourist' season.
The only known control is QUARANTINE
Droplets containing the virus from bodily fluids that land on any surface can carry the live virus for thirty days.
You step on some vomit that was not cleaned up properly or touch a door knob that an infected person touched then touch your eyes or nose and 21 days later you are down for the count. This is extremely contagious. It may not have mutated to “airborne” transmission yet but droplet transmission is still bad when the death percentage is so high.
There's only a risk if you recline your seat
Entering the logarithmic phase. September. Look at the parallels with the time of the 1918 Flu epidemic.
And we are going to send soldiers over there. INSANE!
It is only INSANE if American forces don’t say NO and HELL NO. It would be better to set in a cell than die of Ebola or bring it back to the wife and kids.
Thanks for the ping! I can’t believe WHO is admitting anything, but it’s about time!
I am sensing a bit of hair on fire coming out of WHO these past couple days. “many thousands of cases” expected in Liberia shortly. Very telling.
So true.
Bring Out Your Dead
Were gonna need
a bigger cart!
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Either declare a force majeur or claim terrorism (war, declared or undeclared).

I don’t think anyone thinks they have sexual contact with the corpses, but many reports have used phrases that referred to traditional practices that involve contact with the body.
Have searched to no avail to find out if this means that a few relatives are involved in the cleanup of the body or if they mean that everyone at the wake is expected to embrace the corpse.
I suspect that it is the former, as I remember reading that the situation is made worse because the relatives then prepare food for the grieving visitors, which helps to spread the virus.
Well, I am thinking that they mean someone getting into one of these taxis and sitting where an infected person has been is going to be touching surfaces where that person many have left sweat or blood or the products of a cough or a sneeze.
That’s the kind of misinformation that’s causing it to spread.

“According to a WHO staff member who has been in Liberia for the past several weeks, motorbike-taxis and regular taxis are a hot source of potential Ebola virus transmission, as these vehicles are not disinfected at all, much less before new passengers are taken on board.”
As I posted in another comment. How often do you think NYC cabbies disinfect their cabs between fares?
The United Nations agency said that aid partners need to scale-up current efforts against Ebola by three-to-four fold in Liberia and elsewhere in West Africa.
