Obama says military will help fight Ebola outbreak in West Africa

President Obama has said that the United States military will begin aiding the response to an outbreak of the Ebola virus in West Africa that has claimed the lives of at least 2,100 people in five countries.

In an interview broadcast Sunday on NBC's "Meet The Press," Obama said the epidemic was a "national security priority" and added that the military would be involved in setting up isolation units and other equipment, as well as providing security for public health workers from around the world.

"If we do that, then it's still going to be months before this problem is controllable in Africa," Obama said. "But it shouldn't reach our shores."

However, Obama also warned that the virus could conceivably spread beyond West Africa, mutating and becoming more easily transmissible in the process, "and then it could become a serious danger to the United States."

If Ebama is so concerned about the spread of ebola in Africa, he himself should volunteer to help, considering his affinity to that continent.

ah yes I remember that. I ma surprised they have not got the flag in their commercials too.

That Navy and marines commercial I posted disgusts me.
The military is not there to protect democracies or people around the world

How awful. I feel so bad for our military and our border patrol. Between this, Afghanistan, what has been destroyed in Iraq, the border and the babysitting . . . and the VA. I despise the Dem more and more each passing day. So disgusting. And the GOPe isn’t much better either.

Photo allegedly taken in April at a military base in Afghanistan.

Then there was this back in March too:

He talked to a guy who was in Afghanistan and he said he was leaving because right after don’t ask was overturned an officer came into the PX in womens clothes.

Tis is all about changing the country and the military, and not a frigging peep from the GOP because they’re cowards or they have been infiltrated by liberaltarians and liberals or they actually agree with all of this sickness...

Everything he has done to the military should be overturned within the first few months

If he follows through on this, before long we will have large numbers of the military either in quarantine or dead. One of the hallmarks of the military is they work together and are in close personal contact with each other most of the time. Those are perfect conditions for the spread of the disease if any of them get it.

Another win-win for 0bama!

we can’t help our vets and vets are dying and homeless but we can help over there.
We don’t have manpower for the border but we can send them over there
We have no money for anything but we have money for this.

Now we have a spineless GOP who are AWOL again.

The CDC, Homeland, and Obama think it's a great idea... they're ‘citizens of the world’ after all and soooooooo much cooler than mere Americans and their children.

Besides it's taking forever for Ebola to come here... oops - maybe the ‘optics’ are wrong on that comment... gotta be careful about shallow appearances...

He’s a total idiot. If he wants to help, he should role up his sleeves and go with Moochelle.

He would only be an idiot, if he thought that what he is doing was for the good of the country. He knows very well what he is doing.

Mine was going to re-up because of ISIS but thank God it was past his deadline. This is one mission that every supporter of the military should protest.

The military, primarily the U.S.Army is involved, and always is with Ebola, but we don’t need (or want) to be sending line troops in to be exposed.

“The Armed Forces Press Service reported late Friday that military health workers, including an entomologist from the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, already are in the affected area providing support ranging from logistical assistance to “clinical management” — assisting in treating affected populations.

“DoD personnel bring a level of excellence second to none, working in response to host nations and WHO in the most-affected countries of Sierra Leone and Liberia,” Army Col. James Cummings, a physician and director of the Global Emerging Infections Surveillance and Response System at the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Center told AFPS.

Filoviruses like Ebola have been of interest to the Pentagon since the late 1970s, mainly because Ebola and its fellow viruses have high mortality rates — in the current outbreak, roughly 60 percent to 72 percent of those who have contracted the disease have died — and its stable nature in aerosol make it attractive as a potential biological weapon.

Since the late 1970s and early 1980s, researchers at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases have sought to develop a vaccine or treatment for the disease.”

“We had a large footprint in Africa,” Cummings said of the Defense Department’s response to the first Ebola cases reported in 1976 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire. Since that time, the Defense Department has answered numerous calls for assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO), nongovernmental organizations and ministries of heath and defense, he said.”

“Just wait until our soldiers start dying from Ebola... “

Those Ebola infected soldiers will be treated by Veterans Hospitals.

Nothing to fear, Dear Leader is here.

they don’t even keep it secret anymore.
Now they do commercials like that saying how we are now to protect democracies around the world and stand up for those around the world.

What a sham our military has become under Obama.

When I saw those commercials, including the one where marines storm a beach but then hands out aid packages got me so pissed off.

I thought my wife and I were the only ones pissed off until we started to ask others around here about them and nearly every vet I have talked to including those at the VFW are all outraged
