ROCKUMENTARY: SEPTEMBER 6, 1967
#25 The Association: Never My Love/Requiem for the MassesDick and Don Addrisi had two hits as vocalists 13 years apart: Cherrystone in 1959, and Weve Got to Get it on Again in 1972. Never My Love was written by the brothers, but not recorded by them. This was to be one of Associations most lasting tunes.
The Association: Never My Love
The B side was too controversial fo AM air play, but it got quite a bit of play on FM Progressive Rock. There were a lot of antiwar songs in this era, but this is one of the most original and memorable. Its less about war than about the death of an individual soldier. The use of a horn at the end is haunting.
The Association: Requiem for the Masses

#2 The Supremes: ReflectionsWith all the psychedelic foolishness going on at the time, Motown tried to add some touches to a mainstream Supremes song. It sold well, but it doesnt quite fit.
