When Rachael Lloyd took up vaping, she thought she'd stumbled across a miracle alternative to smoking. Little did she know, her e-cigarette wasn't quite as guilt-free as she'd assumed - as the World Health Organisation is now starting to realise
...
Two days later I scurried to my doctor for a second opinion. She asked exactly how much vapour I was consuming per hour. Up to forty inhalations an hour on a particularly stressful day, I admitted. According to her, I was inhaling the equivalent of 40 fags a day at least in terms of nicotine. There was no doubt about it, I was a vape addict.

In before the e-cig vendors, addicts, smokers, pot heads and libertarians show up to call me a nanny-stater for daring to post an article pointing out the health dangers.

I was inhaling the equivalent of 40 fags a day at least in terms of nicotine. A really, really idiotic article.
The health problems of smoking are associated very largely, though not exclusively, with the byproducts of combustion, not with the nicotine as such.

You’re only a nanny-stater if you want the government to outlaw them. Do you?

My e-cig has different levels of nicotine you can choose for the cartridge.
And some don’t let you take more than 10 draws per minute.

Yes, why would anyone want to embrace
harm reduction methods and products when we can just add yet more unnecessary, punitive regulations and laws?

According to her, I was inhaling the equivalent of 40 fags a day at least in terms of nicotine. That's the point, fool. You get your dose of nicotine, without all the other harmful by-products of burning organic materials. As to other supposedly "harmful chemicals" the WHO and FDA are warning about - what exactly are they?

So she’s getting a high dose of one chemical, which is not a carcinogen.
Meanwhile she has stopped getting hundreds of other chemicals, many of which are known to cause bad health outcomes.
Sounds like a great trade

My understanding is that it isn’t the nicotine that is the carcinogen, but the tars.

But she wasn’t inhaling the smoke and tar of 40 cigs a day either....

Correct.
Nicotine (well, it’s derivatives) are NECESSARY for life.
Ever hear of nicotinic acid? Well, the scientists call it “niacin” because when they realized it was needed by the body, they didn’t want people to think nicotine was something good, so they called it “niacin”
It’s political correctness all the way...
