'The Los Angeles Times's Julie Cart reported on Sunday of plans to build "restaurants, hotels and shops" on Navajo Indian land adjacent to the eastern portion of the Grand Canyon.
The 420-acre Grand Canyon Escalade proposal would also feature an eight-person gondola that would take tourists on a 10-minute ride to the canyon floor, she writes, "where they would stroll along an elevated riverside walkway to a restaurant at the confluence of the Colorado and Little Colorado rivers".

The canyon, called one of the seven natural wonders of the world, attracts more than 5 million visitors annually. Confluence Partners, the company behind the proposal, estimates the development could draw as many as 3 million visitors.
Prospects for this new construction have officials from the US Park Service worried that the project - located two miles from the park - may have an adverse impact on the area's scenic vistas.'

I don’t see a problem - it’s a pretty big canyon.
I can’t wait to see the headline, “Could this be the end of the BBC?”
Oh well, I can dream, can’t I?
It would be WONDERFUL!!! MORE people should see it any way they can!!
Sounds like a great place to have a buffalo steak.
If done correctly... Why not? The old folks would like it I’d bet.
Under Agenda 21 they want to make it as difficult as possible for people to go out into nature, not easier.
US Park Service + Fascism = Mob Rule by mobsters..
With “Dons” and “Capos” and “Goons” and everything..
After what the park service did to monuments and parks during that budget thing, I have no respect for anything they have to say.
I’d go in a drumbeat!
Years ago, my grandparents took a lot of roadtrips from NC. One was to the grand canyon. It was almost right out of national lampoon vacation. They drove there, got out of the car, looked for a few minutes and drove back home.
I love this kind of stuff. Those parks belong to US, so if Private Industry wants to improve upon them and make a little cash while doing so, so be it! We certainly do NOT have the $$$ to keep our parks pristine, anymore. $17 Trillion in debt will do that to a country. *SHUDDER*
I cannot WAIT to make a trip out west again to see how the Crazy Horse Monument is coming along. I saw it as a 20 year old, so 30+ years later, seeing it again would be pretty cool.
Don’t post any pictures! I don’t wanna know! :)
A Riverside County fire inspector was quoted as saying he'd shut the whole place down, during a visit with the reporter to one of 'em.
This.
Sometimes Europeans tend to not grasp the immense scale of the USA. They’re getting worked up about adding about a block of services to a place three times the size of London.
Niagra falls is doing fine surrounded by casinos restaurants and hotels.
About 15 years ago my son and I took a rafting trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. It took about five days and we slept under the stars each night. It was an amazing experience.
It’s a horrible idea and shows that liberal Indian tribes cannot be trusted to protect nature’s wonders.
