Republicans have a clear advantage on immigration in a recent poll, a potent weapon for GOP candidates in the final stretch of the midterm elections.
The George Washington University Battleground Poll shows that more Americans trust Republicans to do a better job handling immigration than Democrats, 48 to 41 percent and in states with competitive Senate races, the share of people who trust Republicans more on immigration jumps to 61 percent. In addition, the poll shows that 58 percent of Americans either somewhat or strongly disapprove of President Obama's handling of immigration.
he findings indicate that immigration could be a more hazardous political issue for Democrats than previously thought. In an election cycle without any prevailing national theme, immigration has recently moved to the top of the national consciousness, according to Gallup polling.
Meanwhile, Democrats have been losing sleep over the possibility of the president taking executive action on immigration prior to November.
Immigration is not the only bright spot for Republicans in the poll, which shows disapproval of Democrats and, in particular, President Obama on a range of issues.

I would take great comfort in that poll, if the Republicans hadn’t packed up and moved to the Democrat position on this issue.
What good is a poll like that anymore? It’s worthless.
What’s worse, it gives the false impression there is a good vs bad side in the debate.
Not any more folks...
The fact that +70% of Americans want to close the boarder means that the Republicans will not run on the issue. They will say that its a divisive issue, and that its best to stay away from it!
We have more in Washington than we ever have who oppose open borders. We can hope it will help. Certainly will not like what the dems do.
Who? Paul Ryan? Karl Rove? Jeb Bush?
No thanks.
I don’t...
the GOP is no better than the Democrats on the illegal aliens..
Obama pelosi etc. They’re worse. We have far more who want border control now. Zero dems take that position. Zero.
Ryan’s working hard to change that.
There are some dems that aren’t on board with amnesty.
The republican leadership has done everything it can to move amnesty forward.

Polls worded such that they ask who people trust on specific issues produce very fickle and unreliable results.
2012 Obama was winning the trust wars as with 2008, 2010 it was the GOP...this year its the GOP again.
Questions need to be more specific like :
a) Deport them all.
b) Given them permanent residency
c) Give them citizenship
d) Do nothing, don't enforce the laws(like now).
Trust McConnell? Boehner? McCain? Ryan? Romney? Etc., etc.....
I think not.
Now if we are talking about Cruz, Lee, Sessions and their group....well then yes by all means.
Not really because it accomplishes your second point
Whats worse, it gives the false impression there is a good vs bad side in the debate.
Polls are not designed to reveal the opinion of the people, they are designed to mold it, and as such, have been working well for over 50 years. This is why, as Rush said last week, we are seeing no polls on the vulnerable democratic senate seats.
Duncan Hunter did and I voted for him.
No poll should be about “immigration”
This isn’t about immigration..
the illegal aliens are not immigrants..
The only difference between the dems and the GOP positions regarding immigration is whether to make them wage slaves (GOP), or federal welfare
slaves (dem). Either way, Americans get screwed by the government, and it’s financial backers, with them being the only ones who profit from illegal immigration.

I can agree with that. To people like you and I who are interested in the truth getting out, it is less than worthless.
It spreads the big lie.
Now it may have value to a disinformation specialist, but I don’t consider you to be someone interested in advancing that sort of project.
‘Ill..gal Al..n’ is now considered a slur like ni...er and queer are, to be bleeped off TV in a delay loop. Those using them will be shunned as if they were the Klan or a white supremest group, and stations that allow it may have their licenses pulled by the FCC.
The acceptable term are now : ‘immigrant’ or ‘undocumented immigrant’ or ‘new immigrant.’
