I guess he really was multitasking out on the golf course. The President’s team has been hard at work behind the scenes, coming up with a strategy … well, maybe we should say plan, to address the nation’s many challenges.
Spurred by President Obamas climate action plan, the Department of Energy is pumping out new standards for refrigerators, dishwashers, air conditioners, ceiling fans, furnaces, boilers, water heaters, lamps and many more appliances.
The administration says the standards will not only help the planet but also stimulate the economy by saving consumers money on their energy bills that they can spend elsewhere.
After what we’ve been through with energy regulations, you’d think the administration would be at least a little hesitant to leap in for another grab at that brass ring. I mean, won’t a sudden raft of new requirements for the products everyone has to purchase have some, er… unintended consequences? William Teach seems to have been thinking along the same lines.

Just spoke with a Structural Engineer regarding some damage to a building I own in Napa. He is also a Title 24 implementer. He told me that here in CA, all new residential structures will have to be “energy neutral” by 2020. Now they are requiring that the structural members of new construction be insulated. This means that each framing member will have to be insulated. Wall framing will have to be stagger studded and roof framing will have to be split and interleaved with insulation. And you thought low flow toilets were good?
BTW a lot of the “earthquake” retrofits that were done in Napa “didn’t work” as they were supposed to. I guess all earthquakes are not created “equal.”
The Party of Murder marches on, relentlessly.
“Next step, outlaw all “obsolete” appliances and force consumers to replace them all.”
Try replacing your R-22 home A/C unit. You will find that R-22 units are out of production and unless you can find an unsold one, you will have to retrofit your A/C system to use all new hardware to accommodate the new “eco-friendly” refrigerant that has been mandated.
One problem is that if everyone reduces their electricity usage, the local utility will run off crying that their profits are down and get to raise their rates so I pay the same amount for less electricity.
Just read where APS (The electric utility in Arizona) is asking for a substantial rate increase to “offset” the negative effects of the increased use of residential solar panels. Personally, I believe that in many localities, the local elctric utility may go the way of the Dodo bird.
Tesla is working on a solar home charging station for their cars coupled with a hot swappable battery pack, because they know that the availability of a reliable source to recharge their cars isn’t available today if people start buying their cars in volume.
From my experiences on this board, apparently you do.
I’ve been “educated” on several obvious sarcasms by persons on this board who feel it is their duty to correct and edumacate even though they are often still wrong.
Shower head's back in place, guess what ain't? Much better. Thanks, 0bama!
In my area, not only did they raise the rates, but they are charging us for the rain.
I can see it now. The new standards for dishwashers will mandate machines that don’t use enough water, and don’t heat the water enough, so you will have to run every load twice to get the dishes clean. Also, they will be half the size of current ones, so you will have to run multiple loads. But they will have a nice sticker on them that assures you that you are saving the planet.
OH, I forgot about the run off fee that came with the rate charge!
there is no P in the tsp these days
Oh, I apologize, I understand the Government’s argument.
I just find the argument fascistic in nature and ignorant in application.
Besides, a Government that finds website construction an insurmountable challenge has little room to instruct others on their private business concerns.
Humbly speaking, of course.
They can do this quite easily by simply passing an "Executive" order that when homes are sold the appliances must meet the new standards. They have done this already with some inspection requirements. Marxists never stop in their quest for POWER!
After eliminating carbon in our fuels, we are really going to need these energy-saving devices. I am so thankful that we have someone like Obama to think for us so we don’t have to think for ourselves.
He will take away our cheap fuels but at the same time reduce unemployment and save us money. It’s like a miracle, or something.
I know that's been true in some states for a while. The last time I bought some there was real TSP in the red box and some trisodium crapfake in the green box. I'll have to check next time I'm in the hardware store and stock up on the real stuff if it is still available.
"Hello -- Federal Kitchen Counselor..."
“The administration says the standards will not only help the planet but also stimulate the economy by saving consumers money on their energy bills that they can spend elsewhere”
Yeah, spend it on new, higher priced appliances that dont work as good as the old onesm
Well, our local energy company has a “free replacement” plan for older refrigerators and washing machines.
So I took them up on it. Talked to the guy doing the install on the fridge.
He said “Saves us from building new power plants blah blah blah...”
Heck, they’re not building new power plants... they’re ripping them out! Ever hear of the Elwha river dam?
So the guy who came to replace my washer told me the truth... every kilowatt that PSE DOESN’T sell to me at .092100 cents per KWH it can sell to California for .159000 per KWH!
Makes sense when you think about it!
The main problem is converting AC to DC and there are only so many items inside
appliances that can run on DC, like fans and regulators. The defrost systems must
have the wattage of AC in order to function properly and in a timely manor or else
food will begin to thaw, and ice will begin to melt. 18-min average for a defrost cycle.
Already the new EPA regs are pushing companies to convert and place DC converters
on the control boards and those are failing at a very high rate.
Dryers? Laughable, forget about it. Washers? Nope, there's only about another 2%(imo)
of savings with current tech unless our overseers know something more than the
engineers do.
All of these new regulations will cost consumers HUGE amounts in repairs
and so much grief it's not even funny. Taking Phosphates out of detergents
was stupid and the Gov can only get worse from here. This shit needs to stop
What we have are newbies out of college who've been brainwashed into believing
the dogma of saving the planet. Or saving you by force at the point of a gun. These
jackasses are trying to make a name for themselves and actually believe they're
the first idiots to think of cutting percentages for the sake of earth worshiping Dogma.
Crush the EPA to bring our economy back, period. End this BS before it's to late.
