Burger King: 'Enemy of the people' -- Another Case of Giant Tax Inversion
Hotair ^ | 08/25/2014 | Noah Rothman

Comrades, there are wreckers in our midst. The industrialist reactionaries at Burger King have declared their intention to abandon the struggle and join the ranks of the enemy in rightist Canada.

That’s right. The traitorous corporation Burger King plans to take advantage of the fact that America’s English-speaking neighbor to the north maintains the second-lowest corporate tax rate of any G-7 nation. How dare they?

“The iconic American fast-food brand is in talks to buy coffee-and-donuts chain Tim Hortons and move its headquarters to Canada,” Forbes reported. If concluded, this deal would create the world’s third-largest restaurant company and allow Burger King to take advantage of a tax inversion deal and relocate their headquarters to Canada.

Earlier this summer, the Obama administration threatened to use the power of executive action to limit the ability of American companies to avoid paying America’s corporate tax rate by, as the president said, “renouncing their citizenship.” According to Business Insider’s Joe Weisenthal, Burger King’s move is a direct challenge to the White House.

“So much for the theory that Treasury could chill future inversion deals by hinting of possible action,” Potomac Research’s Greg Valliere told Weisenthal.

“[T]he news gives Democrats another talking point,” the Business Insider analyst wrote. “The potential departure of an iconic American company because of ‘corporate greed’ will be trotted out on the campaign trail.”

Oh, we are well past denouncing “corporate greed.” The time has come for populist rage to hit the streets!

In all important ways Tim Hortons has always been a Canadian company. They are an institution there. Founded by a hall-of-fame NHL defenseman who played 21 seasons for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

I saw a heck of a lot of construction going on in Toronto when I visited this summer.

I don’t think I’ve seen that much construction going on in a city since Washington DC in the days of Lyndon Johnson.

And I don’t care what anyone says, the Whopper is superior in every way to any burger McDodo makes.

Flame broiled, real veg.
Not the best burger in the world but superior to anything McDodo makes.

Yes. I like the burger, but I'm not a fan of any of the fried products.

And not as greasy as those super-delicious (and more costly) ones from Five Guys. When adequate and superior cost the same (or a little more for superior), I'll take superior. But when I can save a third or more and the lesser is of acceptable quality, I'll take adequate.

Burger King has a huge corporate headquarters in South Miami-Dade county, right on the shores of Biscayne Bay. Right where Hurricane Andrew came ashore.

‘Twas a lovely piece of land and with all the ‘skeeters a thriving mangrove infected shore can produce. Between the flying blood-suckers and the AgencyPerson leeches, and the swarms of lawyers, it is astonishing they remained in America as long as they did.

The GibsMedDats, be they black/Latrino welfare persons, or AgencyPersons with regulation books authorizing costs beyond number - eventually Burger King management decided they would not pay any more to the swarms “eating out their substance”. Swarms of ‘skeeters they could not spray thanks to an enviro regulation, or swarms of greedy AgencyPersons - eventually Burger King decided to pay no more taxes to support those intent on destroying them.

It was born and raised in Miami, Fl. Think they are still there.
I remember the original BK on Coral Way (SW 22 st.) and approx 17th Ave. Circa 1956

"I saw a heck of a lot of construction going on in Toronto when I visited this summer."

Toronto? You mean Seattle? If so, yes, it's huge, much of it having to do with amazon expansion. It's so bad that most locals stay away if they can. Driving in that South Lake Union area is an absolute nightmare of construction noise, closed streets, dug-up streets, detours, one-way streets, and vanishing landmarks. People are becoming angry because amazon and the other businesses in that area hire rent-a-cops to stop traffic while their parking garages empty out.

Thank you Vinnie. I don’t like seeing corporations move overseas. It’s just one more piece of evidence that the U. S. is dying.

Ok, since the subject was Canada, I see you were referring to Toronto, not Seattle.

Me too, and the traffic was nuts, and this wasn't even during Rush Hour.

I saw all that in Toronto even the rent-a-cop scenario played out in front of my eyes.

They’re drawing something in up there and I suspect it may be coming from the US.
