Fox News recently had a political story noting that in several close Senate races in red states, Libertarian candidates might keep the Republican nominee from winning seats held by Democrats today. In the last three election cycles, liberal Democrats in Senate races have won races with less than half the vote, and with the majority of the vote going to the Republican nominee and candidates more conservative than that nominee.
In 2008, Mark Begich won in Alaska with 47.8% of the vote, while Republican Ted Stevens earned 46.6% and Bob Bird of the Alaska Independence Party, endorsed by Ron Paul, won 4.2%. Al Franken in Minnesota won 41.99% of the vote, while Republican Norm Coleman won 41.98% and Dean Barkley, a Perot and Ventura supporter, got 15.1% of the vote. Jeff Merkely in Oregon got 48.9% of the vote, while Gordon Smith received 45.6% and Constitution Party candidate Dave Brownlow won 5.2% of the vote. In 2012, the same pattern emerged.
How much have leftist Democrats prospered by the division of conservative votes? Consider that Democrat Jon Test in Montana in 2006 got 49.2% of the vote, while Republican Conrad Burns got 48.3% of the vote and Libertarian Stan Jones got 2.6%, and then in 2012, Democrat Jon Tester won 48.6% of the vote, while Republican Denny Rehberg got 44.9% while Libertarian Dan Cox received 6.1%. Tester won his seat and then six years later defended it because his opposition was split.

Typical liberal tactic. Taking a Ronald Reagan quote out of context and twisting it to suggest Reagan was also a lib or that he had sympathies to libs.
Try posting ALL relevant aspects of that interview and you’ll see Reagan was NO libertarian.
I said you could ask (feel free) more questions. Didn’t say I would answer them.
I will say this. I will NOT hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils anymore. And I will NOT be blamed when “Zippy” is elected as a result of libertarians and RINO’s and their anti-conservative attitudes.
Are you absolutely sure Obama won a fair and accurate count of the ballots cast?”
Excellent point. NO, zippy did NOT win fair / square and all of us who are political junkies know that. Same here in Wisconsin when literally busloads of Illinois peeps arrive at our polling places for PRE-voting, same day voting. When the votes are counted by evil people it’s not a fair, you are correct! We have a not so funny joke here wondering if we could get Jimma Cartaaa here to “watch for accuracy in elections!”
This of course is why #$%^&& Holder files law suits against all states like WI that are trying to get voter ID passed. Keep the faith.
or get out of the way and let real conservatives run.
I can read what you have to say about conservatism or I can read what Ronald Reagan had to say about conservatism. The choice is easy since even your criticism of Reagan makes little sense. I can’t quote everything Reagan ever said but perhaps you can quote a critique of libertarianism you think he ever said.
So you say but cannot prove.
</sarcasm>
Thanks for the quotes.
I cant quote everything Reagan ever said but perhaps you can quote a critique of libertarianism you think he ever said.

You CAN - you COULD - but you WON’T. Three different FReepers have called you out for your dishonesty here.
If I wanted to, I would post the relevant aspects of that same interview that prove you wrong, but I see your mind is closed on the subject, so I’ll leave you to wallow in your ignorance.
You just don’t get it. The GOPE gave us another four yrs. of obama. Saying conservatives cost you the election is just another attempt by GOPE liberals to try and skip out on personal responsibility. We have had one feckless GOPE liberal after another foisted upon us since 1992 and they have managed to squeak out two wins by the skin of their teeth.
And after each loss, oh hell no, it wasn’t our fault the GOPE would screech, it was conservatives who cost us by making us be too conservative or by staying home, or not working hard enough etc... never mind we offered no choice in the election.
When you do not offer a choice people will stay home. Socialism or socialism lite, some choice! The damned fools are trying to out liberal a liberal on the cheap and you will always lose that election.
Obama’s two terms, as well as Clinton’s are solidly on the backs of the leftist GOPE.
and what part of the Libertarian platform did Reagan embrace? drugs? sodomy? open borders?
no, no, no
Good gosh man, read your own 1975 libertarian interview with Reagan to see where he disagreed with them, and that was him being as gentle and non-confrontational as he could possibly be, since he was there campaigning for their vote.
While you are at it, since Reagan was one of our most prolific writers and speakers on politics over a long lifetime, perhaps you can show us his vast body of work on being libertarian.
Reagan wasn’t a libertarian, and he makes that clear in that 1975 interview.
If the GOP was the bastion of freedom in America y'all think it is, we wouldn't have reason to vote 3rd party. I like to tell people I was a republican at 8 years old, all the way until 2006 when I realized that all my hard work and dedication to the GOP over the previous 20 years, and especially in getting W elected, was all for naught as, despite the majority in the House & Senate, and an (R) in the White House, they did nothing with it, other than to establish the tyranny that has allowed obama to destroy the Constitution. No, I will not be a part of that any longer. It is my patriotic duty to walk away from the GOP.
Oh I GET it alright! The time for a big fight is at the BEGINNING of the primary season, primary candidates, primary votes, every small election including school board. UGH. By the time it gets to the national / every 4 years candidate, it’s too late. Conservatives need to make their voices heard early on, before the slimebuckets of the GOPe get their way. Cut off their funding, like it appears to be now. Make phone calls BEFORE the elections, large and small. Look at Mississippi! Did any of you make phone calls before or after THAT fiasco? Well, I did. The calls may not have made a difference, but as you know in with marketing and sales.... if one person called that means 10 more wanted to call but didn’t. I am furious with the GOPe. Can’t stand to look at them, have been disappointed in them for years. But I’m trying to do my small part.
NO, I refused to stay home and NOT vote. If you can honestly say that Ford would have been worse than Carter or that Romney or McCain would be worse that what we are currently living through, then I need someone to post that face palm photo.
I too voted for Palin and was sickened by what McLaim’s advisers did to Palin by trashing her very existence. Imagine, GOP trying to defeat itself. This is all very frustrating, and YES I get it.
Maybe, if, your aunt had balls, she'd be your uncle.
The pubbies could run Rush Limbaugh and the libertarians would still run a candidate.
Maybe if the purists had a brain and not a glass of purple kool aid, you'd realize the harm that you have done.
Piss off, to all the screamers and bitches that will follow.
You forget that libertarians want to defeat conservatism, they aren’t looking for candidates who are “more” conservative.
His words are clear. Agreed, he wasn’t a libertarian himself just as I am neither an actor nor a politician. He did, however, define libertarianism as the heart and soul of conservatism.
Good god man, read the damned quote.
He didn’t have embrace anything nor even agree with it. I defer to him, however in the definition of libertarianism as the heart and soul of conservatism. I simply trust him more than I do you for such a definition.
Post it, I dare you. Post where Reagan defines libertarianism as not the heart and soul of conservatism. He need not have been a libertarian himself to accurately define it as the motivation of the Founders.
libertarians are evil
The founders writings still exist, they speak for themselves.
