'Widespread methane leakage' from ocean floor off US coast
BBC News ^ | 8/24/14 | Matt McGrath

Researchers say they have found more than 500 bubbling methane vents on the seafloor off the US east coast.

The unexpected discovery indicates there are large volumes of the gas contained in a type of sludgy ice called methane hydrate.

There are concerns that these new seeps could be making a hitherto unnoticed contribution to global warming.

The scientists say there could be about 30,000 of these hidden methane vents worldwide.

Previous surveys along the Atlantic seaboard have shown only three seep areas beyond the edge of the US continental shelf.

Well, I suggest scientists get busy and plug these holes. After all, they want to save the planet.

Doesn’t George Bush have a great big, fast, expensive boat he drives on the Atlantic Ocean?

Well there ya go.

Here is an idea, harvest it and burn it to produce powe, take the co2 from it and pipe it into greenhouses next tot he power plants and use the standby power during the night to light the green houses and raise food with the excess CO2 and sell the food and it is a double win, Food + Energy and more humans, screw the depopulation crowd

Co-op City in the Bronx was built on a former garbage dump. The final scene from the movie The Seven Ups was filmed at the remaining undeveloped landfill there a couple of years after the apartment buildings were constructed. To this day they’ve been having problems with methane leaks, which are raising serious health concerns, not to mention concerns that the structural integrity of the foundations of the buildings may be compromised.

Well duh! There’s methane bubbling up in the natural pond on my back property. Who are these geniuses that report this crap?

This is nothing new, old news I recall reading of decades ago. Methane hydrate along the east coast is suspected of having blown up sporadically in the past and could cause a huge disaster if it happened now. But it’s one of those things that might not happen for a million years so we can relax. Also have read of other nations intending to farm it for energy (Japan). Just hope the farming doesn’t prematurely cause a blowout.

Solution: harvest and use it.
"Big Daddy" Don Garlits owes much of his success as a drag racer to nitro methane. One quote attributed to him, "Gasoline is for washing parts, alcohol is for drinking and nitro-methane is for racing!"

You know, ‘scientist’ is becoming an oxymoron because they’ve so crapped on their profession just to cull taxpayer dollars.

http://motherboard.vice.com/blog/why-japans-methane-hydrate-exploitation-is-game-over-for-climate

One of those “scientific” articles complaining that Japan will make it game over with “global warming” when they exploit methane hydrate over the next five years.

“56 million years ago, an estimated 2,500 gigatons of carbon were released into the atmosphere… likely came from a collapse of methane hydrate reserves”

I say if it’s there, it was intended for us to use it. More power to Japan for doing it.

Get Al Gore some SCUBA gear and he can swim down, plug the leaks and be a worldwide hero (even more so than he is now).
