A coalition of Ferguson protesters met with reporters Friday to announce a list of demands related to the investigation of the shooting death of Michael Brown and to call for college students to participate in a national “Walk Out” from classes on Monday.
The group says it doesn't yet have a name, but those involved include members of the Organization for Black Struggle and Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment. Meetings are held at Greater St. Mark’s Missionary Church near Ferguson.
Taurean Russell of St. Louis said this is the first time the group has issued an official statement.
“We are the core, and we’re mostly youth. We have demands, counter demands. Actions if demands are not met,” Russell said.
The list includes:
A swift and impartial investigation by the Department of Justice into the Mike Brown shooting, and expanded DOJ investigation into civil rights violations across North St. Louis County. The immediate arrest of Officer Darren Wilson County prosecutor Bob McCulloch to stand down and allow special prosecutor to be appointed. The firing of Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson. Accountability for police practices and policies, including effective civilian review of shootings and allegations of misconduct. The immediate de-escalation of militarized policing of protestors to protect constitutional rights. The immediate release of individuals who have been arrested while attending a protest.
If demands are not met, Russell said his group would continue to protest. If Officer Wilson is not indicted, Russell says protestors will turn to boycotts and other walk outs.
“We have nothing but time on our hands,” Russell said. “We’re not going to stop until we get justice, not only for Mike Brown. For everybody, until the whole system understands that we’re people, and everyone needs equality.”
Members said they are calling for college students to walk out of their classes on Monday in honor of Michael Brown.
“Back in the '60s, they were blessed with the pleasure to exercise their rights by sitting in,” said St. Louis rap artist and coalition member Tef Poe. “We want to exercise our rights by calling for a walk out.”
You know, if “injustice, racism, intolerance, bigotry, police brutality” and “inequality” are so rampant here in the United States, why not leave? There are over 200 other countries in the world. Surely some of them have to be “fairer” than ours, so why stay here and keep on harping on “the man keeping you down” when you can hop on a boat or airplane and get out of Dodge in a matter of hours? I’ll even lobby my congressman to get a bill going that everyone that renounces their citizenship gets a one-way ticket to anywhere and a million dollars, tax-free. It’d be cheaper in the long run to get rid of the whiners, criminals, deadwood and non-productive.

One of the speculations for the Zimmerman trial was the jurors would find him guilty not because he was but for fear of riots if they failed to find him guilty. Democrats have regularly promised riots in the streets if they didn’t get their way. (Al Gore made this claim several times. Obama told a group of businessmen that he was the only thing standing between them and the angry mob.) It has never happened on the promise of a politician, but it does regularly occur when verdicts come out. (The Rodney King riots were going to occur regardless of how it came out.)
But it is a very real concern that jurors will act this way. A judge needs to tell them in their instructions that riots are not their concern. Their concern is finding a verdict appropriate to the evidence. I feel so sorry for somebody who, because he is white, is a political voodoo doll that must be sacrificed to appease the angry gods of racism.

Well, off hand, the only impact of this act, other than feeding the LMSM’s need to fill time and column space, is the loss of a day’s worth of college football practice. Wonder how much of an impact that will have for this year’s final standings and bowl games?
So they demand the officer be indicted? What if the investigation shows insufficient evidence to take him to trial? Gasp! You know, part of that impartial process. Guess these fools want to skip the investigation, go right to trial. Hey, why waste time with that? Let’s just skip ahead to sentencing. No wait, even better, skip that part to and just go to execution, start forming the lynch mob. ... Oh, I see you’re already there. Yeah, because vigilante driven public lynchings have such a wonderful history in the US. Is that really who these people want to become?

Ferguson will turn into Gaza eventually. Same thing with Detroit, Camden, etc. Substitute Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackmo for Hamas. It’s all the same.
You have a choice in life. You can be Condi Rice or Clarence Thomas. Or you can be Jesse Jackson or Cynthia McKinney. 97% of blacks voted for Obama. 97% of Palestinians voted for Hamas.
Not judging, but observing. I call this the “crab” culture. The more one wants to scape it, the more the group pulls him back in.
Depends on how you define “impartial.” “Impartial” to these folks means officer is found guilty. “Partial” means whitey is protecting his own.
