The Pentagon said Friday that a Chinese fighter jet made “several passes” by a U.S. Navy aircraft earlier this week off the coast of China in international airspace, baring its weapons and coming within mere feet of the U.S. plane.

A Navy vet told me that when Carter was president Syrian jets would break the sound barrier as they flew between and below the tops of the two antenna groups on his ship. (Extremely dangerous.) They stopped even coming close as soon as Reagan was elected.

The Brits armed their Nimrods with Sidewinders during the Falklands conflict, o its not impossible. But that’s scanty defense against a high-performance fighter.
About these not being considered a threat, they are still capable of carrying anti-ship and anti-sub weapons, so that’s technically a threat.
Out of curiosity, how do you think the US Air Force would respond if Chinese ELINT aircraft were flying routes 135 miles off the coast of the US? I’m not aware of them doing that, and when the Russians occasionally do it it’s newsworthy...
