Even the New York Times editorial board thinks the grand jury indictment of Texas Gov. Rick Perry is baseless. In an editorial dripping with contempt for their own conclusions, the Times is compelled to confess that there is really no there there.
One has to read this editorial to appreciate the angst it engendered in the Gray Ladys panel of handwringers, Ed Morrissey observed. Its an expert lesson in the use of weasel words.
Conservatives have rallied to Perrys side following this baseless indictment. Democrats have scrambled to disassociate themselves from his accusers. Many thought that Perry may end up emerging, paradoxically, in a better political position for having been indicted on corruption charges.
But Rosemary Lehmberg, the local district attorney who managed to secure this indictment and who many believe was exacting political retribution against Perry after he sought her removal from the bench for her DUI arrest, may end up with the last laugh.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry plans to turn himself into authorities Tuesday afternoon at a local Texas jail on the heels of his indictment for alleged abuse of power, a member of the governors legal team told Fox News, a report read on Tuesday. Fox News has learned Perry will have his mugshot and fingerprints taken.
Thats really bad news for those who backed Perrys prospective 2016 presidential campaign. No matter how frivolous the charges Perry faces, and they are frivolous, few politicians can recover from having a police mugshot follow them around wherever they go. And Perrys mugshot will do just that in 2015 and 2016.
Life isnt fair, and neither are high-dollar Republican donors the kind of people a prospective candidate needs to woo in order to mount an even remotely competitive presidential campaign.

This is just the start. Now that the donks have removed Perry form wh contention, they will go after the other contenders and remove them one by one.
Even absent this frivolous indictment, Perry couldn’t win, if by “win” you mean “have a realistic shot at the 2016 presidential nomination.” To be brutally honest, he frequently sounds dumb when he speaks, especially extemporaneously, as is often necessary in debates and interviews.
Put a fork in Rick Perry. Ted Cruz is the Texan to watch in 2016.
” he frequently sounds dumb “ Big deal, Obama sounds smart. That hasn’t worked out so well.
Perry DOES the right things (most of the time...more than any other Republican running anything). No more presidential candidates with no executive experience. We’re not hiring a talk show host here.
Perry is an Aggie and an ultra liberal... don’t forget he’s a former card carrying Democrat. Love Cruz, but we can’t have an ineligible running for Pres. after raising such cane against the other ineligible that’s in there now.
Canary, meet cat.
Rothman is wrong. The Tom DeLay judicial fiasco and that of Perry today is proof positive that the Democrats are authoritarians who will pervert the law, subvert the Constitution, or ignore it completely, to gain their dominance agenda.
Even liberal law professors like Tobin and Dershowitz are beginning to see the light re the Democrats’ authoritarian ideology and plans.
This is going to backfire bigtime on the Dems and their marxist/leftist supporters. Moderate liberals are also beginning to desert the “red ship of subversion” of American justice.
November is going to be a big blow-out against the Dems.
What is going on in Ferguson, MO today, with the horrible statements of Nixon, the Dem governor, and Dem political hacks, will be reflected in the major defeat of Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) who has refused to condemn the rioters and rioting, while tacitly supporting those who blame everything on the police.
Watch and see if Missouri law enforcement unions and organizations come out completely against McCaskill and Nixon.
dead on right.
And....that’s a good looking mugshot
“but we cant have an ineligible running for Pres. after raising such cane against the other ineligible thats in there now.”
That argument is dead after Obama. Even if it had validity at one time it no longer does. In fact Republicans should pick Cruz simply BECAUSE of the gray issue and then throw Obama back at them if they say anything.
The spirit of citizenship law is that the president have no allegiance o another nation I think that Ted Cruz fits that definition. Neither the Obamanation of Desolation or William Clintdog did.
go rick......
“Or he could use the mug shot in a campaign advert with the caption;
This is what the democrats do to people that disagree with them
“
Excellent suggestion!
Perry is a longtime immigration enthusiast, and that’s a dealbreaker for me. His newfound border hawk position reminds of jailbirds who for the first time in their lives praise Jesus: in hopes of getting clemency. He’s just singing a different tune on immigration now because he
fancies it might allow him to get the presidential nomination.
