A Texas judge opted Monday not to issue an arrest warrant against Gov. Rick Perry, but the Republican still faces the unflattering prospect of being booked, fingerprinted and having his mug shot taken — and has assembled a team of high-powered attorneys to fight the two felony counts of abuse of power against him.
"This is nothing more than banana republic politics," Tony Buzbee a Houston-based defense attorney who will head a cadre of four lawyers from Texas and Washington defending Perry, said at a news conference.
A grand jury in Austin, a liberal bastion in otherwise largely conservative Texas, indicted Perry for carrying out a threat to veto $7.5 million in funding for the state's public integrity unit after Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, a Democrat, refused to resign following a drunken driving arrest. The ethics unit is housed under Lehmberg's office.
No one disputes that Perry has the power to veto measures approved by the Legislature, but his threat to do so before actually carrying it out prompted a complaint from a left-leaning watchdog group.

He shouldn't have to. It's an abuse of power and an injustice that's an outrage.

It does say this so, he may work around it. I hope that he can. He doesn’t deserve this for taking on the left-wingers in Austin. Give him a metal for that one! ( Some things I don’t like about him. but this one, he is being mistreated wrongly, as they did with Sarah Palin and Scot Walker).

This is absurd.
There is a term for this kind of tactic that the Left uses...A blogger on Powerline refers to it as ‘lawfare’. There must be legal reform at some point that penalizes those who bring abusive actions to court. Whether it is a nuisance lawsuit or a politicized prosecution; it is an attack on the rule of law.

I think Perry handled this veto thing poorly. But Perry should refuse to get fingerprinted, etc. After all, he's not being arrested.
This is no way a criminal case. This is a civil/constitutional case.
And if some dufus judge does issue an arrest warrant, he should still refuse. He just has to be nimble, and surround himself with a trusted bodyguard. He can't let himself get handcuffed on some sidewalk somewhere.
I hope Perry does not give in here.

Without donning the tin foil hat, I don’t think Perry could have planned this any better.
I also immediately thought of Tom Delay’s “mug shot.” The Dems and the MSM hoped to see a scowling, guilty-looking photo of Tom Delay that they could plaster all over the media. Instead, he looked like a guy who just won the lottery. Rick Perry should do the same.
Is there any doubt this kind of abuse will spread?
Every Republican presidential candidate will be arrested, fingerprinted and mugshots.
