Many social conservatives say they feel politically isolated as the country seems to be hurtling to the left, with marijuana now legal in Colorado and gay marriage gaining ground across the nation. They feel out of place in a GOP increasingly dominated by tea party activists and libertarians who prefer to focus on taxes and the role of government and often disagree with social conservatives on drugs or gay rights.

I just hope that Republicans will see through this effort and won't accommodate the Dems by fighting each other, while the Dems dance to victory.
I’m not seeing the divide between Evangelicals and the Tea Party.
I agree. You want to believe a Washington compost article is telling the truth? Think again, think no.
“Divide and conquer”
No doubt that is the purpose of the article.
Defunding unconstitutional spending essentially defunds the social activist left (one example: Planned Parenthood), who depend on Uncle Sugar to stay in business. In a privatized world, lefty social activism goes begging.
I think this is bunk.
Bingo.
Exactly.
Where are the articles that have the headline:
BLACKS LOSING MILLIONS OF JOBS TO ILLEGALS
AFRICAN-AMERICAN UNEMPLOYMENT RATE SOARS AS IMMIGRANTS REPLACE THEM
???
Put not your trust in ruler nor in any child of earth, for there is no hope in them..."
But when you have only a selective sola scriptura....
The Washington Compost is such a rag! Doing the Democratic Party’s spin and propoganda is shameful while the country is going down the tubes. Lefties don’t give two cents about the country. It’s all about the acquisition and holding on of political power!!!
We will probably never see an article about how Democrats are divided by moral and character concerns. They don’t have any.
Do you mean the social evangelicals who have been supporting Obama for 6 years...and some the democrat party for all their lives? THOSE evangelicals? Are you trying to tell us that they want in the republican tent, but want us to cater to them?
>> "Evangelicals" would do well to heed the words of Psalm 146:3: Put not your trust in ruler nor in any child of earth, for there is no hope in them..." But when you have only a selective sola scriptura.... <<
I'm not seeing why the media constantly uses the words "Evangelical" and "Social conservatives" interchangably like they're the same thing. There are socially liberal evangelicals and socially conservative non-evangelicals (I'm in the latter category... I am staunchly pro-life and pro-traditional marriage, but I'm NOT a "sola scriptura" protestant)
It's gotten so ridiculous that the media refers to ANY socially conservative candidate as "Evangelical", regardless of their religious beliefs, which is a bit like saying anyone who eats spaghetti is "Italian".... "Sean O'Malley, an leading Italian chef, specializes in cooking ravioli..."
For the millionth time: SOCIAL CONSERVATISM IS FISCAL CONSERVATISM.
Oh I totally agree. This article was written to divide to try and get them to not get involved and have them sit out elections.
This is the Washington Post so they naturally see Evangelicals as uneducated people looking to be led by some demagogue. When there is no identifiable Christian candidate, the Post’s angle is that the Evangelicals are confused and don’t know what to do, as if they are too stupid to choose someone who isn’t wearing a cleric’s collar.
Great summary O. Blowhard!
Don’t you love it when the liberal leftists try to give us advice on how to win elections. Enough to gag a maggot on a meat wagon.
To modify: all conservatism is social conservatism. Without the base of right and wrong, conservatism is not possible.
In short, if you ain't socon, you ain't nocon.
And if you aren't ALSO fiscally conservative, you do not have the right to the label conservative.
Yes, you need the base of right and wrong, but if we do not ENERGETICALLY de-fund the Left by cutting government programs and grants, then they win over the long term.
Case in point, the black vote. There are allegedly lots of Bible-believing, church-going, socially-conservative blacks out there. Yet they still vote 95% Democrat. Why? Because they are financially addicted to government-enforced affirmative action, welfare, government jobs, non-profit grants to "combat poverty and discrimination:, etc.
If we are ONLY socially conservative, the Dems win.
