They say a prosecutor could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich, and this always seemed like hyperbole, until Friday night a Texas grand jury announced an indictment of governor Rick Perry. The crime for which Perry faces a sentence of 5 to 99 years in prison is vetoing funding for a state agency. The conventions of reporting which treat the fact of an indictment as the primary news, and its merit as a secondary analytic question make it difficult for people reading the news to grasp just how farfetched this indictment is.

This is going to backfire on the Dems bigtime. Perry is going to make political hay out of it.
Judge Jeanine was just on Fox News. To say she was PO’d, would be just a bit of an understatement. Needless to say, she did not like it much.
..... Ridiculous or not ..... All Republicans with Presidential aspirations should be aware of the Chicago Community Activist's "Long Knives" that will be out to destroy and sully the reputations of all candidates to narrow the list to those that are more palatable and easy to beat in the 2016 Election..... You know ... the candidates that the GOPe are excited about.
If Jonathan Chait - one of America’s most oleaginous leftist lickspittles - is backing away from this indictment of the Governor, then it is doomed to failure.
After 2008, they did it to Palin.
They did it to Christie, at least the scandal portion.
Scott Walker.
Now Perry.
There is a pattern....
The story here is the political corruption in Austin that led to a grand jury actually going forward with this. Given the video of the drunk prosecutor it makes it even more stunning. This is only the beginning of how far shameless liberals will go.
Lehmbergs predecessor, Ronnie Earle, indicted then-Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R) for allegedly misusing state resources when she was the state treasurer. The prosecution crumbled on the first day of trial. Earle also brought a case against then-House whip Tom DeLay (R), for violations of Texas campaign finance laws. The conviction was overturned.

True, see the article at powerline: http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2014/08/rick-perry-and-the-democrats-pattern-of-lawfare-against-rising-republicans.php
Asspress/Yahoo/AOL commie news ran with it, complete with a pic of Perry looking like a slobbering wrestler approaching a cameraman.
They can’t win in the arena of ideas so they have to destroy them personally.
Could it be that the rats WANT Perry to be the nominee in 2016 and are boosting his chances?
Looks like even libs can see through the canard facing Perry.
Perry needs to bide his time. Let this thing turn on them. Meanwhile do some investigating, and if any wrongdoing is found, at the right time frogmarch that whole crew off to jail. This whole thing is corrupt to the core.
It’s not ridiculous to partisan democrats that would stop at nothing if it gives them political advantage. Hasn’t the last 6 yrs of Obama taught everyone that in spades?
Indeed - he should make a joke of it. It would be great speech, fund-raising and base-motivating fodder for the next 6 months.
I don’t get why more people aren’t saying how stupid this is. And how outrageous. Rick Perry is being indicted for being governor. Either freedom of speech or acting like a governor. Both are completely legal by any standard. Why doesn’t he go right to the Texas supreme court. There should not be a trial.
Just like they take states to court to overturn referendums and propositions, repeatedly, until they’ve had time to use taxpayer money through the schools etc to propagandize a new generation.
As I’ve said before, if you knew how much power the State has, you’d be floored.
Yes. We could get an indictment against a ham sandwich if we abused our power.
