If youve been watching cable news, reading Hollywood celebrities tweets, and listening to race-hustling opportunists, you might think that every police officer in America has a finger on the trigger, hunting for any excuse to gun down defenseless youths.
This hysterical nonsense must be stopped.
The Cirque du Cop-Bashing, with Al Sharpton as ringmaster, is working overtime to exploit the deadly incident in Ferguson, Mo. That means stoking antilaw enforcement fires at all costs.
Are there bad cops? Yes. Does the police state go overboard sometimes? Yes. Do the demagogues decrying systemic racism and braying about assassinations know what happened when teenager Mike Brown was tragically shot and killed last week? No.
Heres a reality check. While narcissistic liberal journalists and college kids are all posting hands up selfies in hipster solidarity with Ferguson protesters, its law-enforcement officers who risk their lives in war zones every day across the country.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) reports that a total of 1,501 law-enforcement officers died in the line of duty during the past ten years, an average of one death every 58 hours, or 150 per year. These include local and state police officers, federal officers, correctional officers, and military law-enforcement officers.
Fact: Last year, 100 law-enforcement officers were killed. On average, over the past decade, there have been 58,261 assaults against law enforcement each year, resulting in 15,658 injuries.
Fact: New York City has lost more officers in the line of duty than any other department, with 697 deaths. Texas has lost 1,675 officers, more than any other state.
Just this week, NLEOMF released preliminary fatality statistics from August 2013 to August 2014. Total fatalities are up 14 percent, from 63 last year to 72 this year.

there is a changing politics of law enforcement .and I think the conservative pundit class is behind the curve. No longer are all conservatives “law enforcement” conservatives. As police forces become more militaristic, more union oriented, more likely to “protect and serve” each other and their pensions than the citizenry - etc - many conservatives (myself included) no longer give cops the benefit of the doubt.
I’m not sure Malkin, Limbaugh, Ingraham, get this yet.
From now on, I want to see white protestors out every time a person (cop or otherwise) is mudered by “one of obamas sons”). I want it plainly visible WHY there are more “people of color” behind bars. Knockout “games” that are killing and maiming whites? I want the same demonstrations against the feral behavior of those who think harming others is fun.
And the overwhelming majority are killed in automobile accidents or other types of accidents.
and many risk their lives to save ours , but trying to convince the hard left or the people who want no laws because they think the world evolves around them will never understand this.
Have to admit it though as the left wing media sure gets the story from rioters and looters to how bad cops are and even the couple on here keep trying to publish left wing B/S about cops
“Preliminary statistics released today by the FBI show that 27 law enforcement officers were feloniously killed in the line of duty in 2013, a decrease of more than 44 percent when compared to the 49 officers killed in 2012. By region, 15 officers died as a result of criminal acts that occurred in the South, six officers in the West, four officers in the Midwest, and two in the Northeast.”
First of all those numbers include accidents right? The numbers murdered while on duty has been going down.
Law enforcement isn’t even in the top 10 most dangerous jobs.
People are tired of the militarization of law enforcement. Tired of the roid enhanced guys in BDUs. Tired of dead dogs.
Hi Seek
http://www.odmp.org/
All officers which have died this year.
This is what happens when a cop is too nice and gives chance after chancehttp://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=cop+shot+to+death+in+GA+by+vietnam+vet&FORM=HDRSC3#view=detail&mid=692299689E2255906373692299689E2255906373
I am a “law enforcement conservative”, who believes in the rule of law. If the investigation proves that the cop in this matter was wrong than he must be held accountable accrding to the law. In the same way rioting and looting is against the law and those who commit these crimes must be held accountable.
Those who complain about the cops don’t hesitate to call the cops if their daughter is abused, their house invaded, robbed or burglarized, etc. and they want no stone unturned to get the perpetrators. Like it or not the local police are the blue line that protect the vast majority of Americans. We can’t depend on Holder, his FBI or Obama to uphold the law.
Since it boil down to most LEOs are former Military (imho) it will boil down to where will our Military stand?
I was curious about this statistic and immediately wondered out of all the cops killed on duty, how many are actually murdered?
I suspect very few.
Get with the program Michelle. Being a cop is not even in the top 10 dangerous professions in the US. Why the awe for a force that is more likely to ruin your life than save it? I don’t see a full blown parade every time a lumberjack (much more dangerous) dies.
i’m sorry, i do not believe that one cop is murdered every four and a half days.
perhaps if you lump in accidents/suicides/illness you might approach that figure, but i’ve seen too many organizations rig studies to come up with a number they desire.
if you want my support you need to lay off tactics the left groups, like women’s groups (super bowl abuse, etc), gay groups (10% homosexual rate), gun control groups (where do i begin?), etc., use.
lumberjacks are ok....
they sleep all night and they work all day
Many are clamoring for law enforcement officers to work without wearing soft body armor, and of course the Left are behind the outcry against law enforcement.
I do have my views on police today overusing swat type tactics rather than ‘protect and serve’.
However, it is insane to ask officers to operate unprotected.
The bottom line today is that many veteran officers are just punching their time cards and waiting for the day that they can get out of policing. Many have found that the best survival technique today is to ‘wear blinders’, especially in the high-crime areas, with the philosophy -”let them kill each other”.
Which is why anyone paying attention knows the Military is being purged by the above people of those whom seek to serve the People and protect the People. Where will our Military stand? Scares the heck out of the corrupt politicians and their minions to have to wonder that question. Our Generals, those that love America, know is a time to be quiet and a time to wait. The wait is on.
The headline is simply wrong.
Here’s one count of 105 line-of-duty deaths in 2013:
http://www.odmp.org/search/year?year=2013
“And the overwhelming majority are killed in automobile accidents or other types of accidents.”
Ever try chasing down a drunk or a speeder on a busy highway, at night, on an icy road, or rain slicked highway, in order to get the defendant before he or she kills an innocent civilian? Ever try pulling over and walking alongside a vehicle with occupants on a busy highway with vehicles and trucks passing you with only a foot or two to spare? No, all cops don’t die by way of a gun shot wound but don’t minimize their death because they got killed in an accident. Either way their dead and won’t be coming home to their wife or kids.
I was apparently not correct in my original assertion. It appears that about half the officers killed in the line of duty are murdered (Assault, gunfire, assault by vehicle):
Here are the stats for 2014, so far:
Line of Duty Deaths: 64
Assault: 1
Automobile accident: 15
Fire: 1
Gunfire: 27
Gunfire (Accidental): 1
Heart attack: 6
Motorcycle accident: 2
Struck by vehicle: 3
Vehicle pursuit: 2
Vehicular assault: 6

Of course, they don’t say how many of the officers killed by gunfire are actually shot by a perpetrator, while on duty. I suspect they bury suicides in there somewhere.
Please explain how having TWO cars speeding down an icy or rain-slicked road at night, instead of just one, is safer for the public.
