The St. Louis County Police Department will no longer be involved in the policing Ferguson, Missouri, the suburban community rocked by protests after the death of an unarmed black teenager who was shot by a police officer last week.
Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.), who represents Ferguson, told Bloomberg on Thursday that Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) is expected to announce the decision later today.
"The gov. just called me and he's on his way to St. Louis now to announce he's taking St. Louis County police out of the situation," he said.
The situation, already tenuous after extensive police presence that included rubber bullets, pepper spray and tear gas since Michael Brown's death last week, exploded Wednesday evening after SWAT officers roughed up and arrested two reporters inside a local McDonald's. The journalists were unharmed, but the incident highlighted the town's ramped up police presence, which has been criticized as overly militarized.
It was unclear which authorities, either state police or the Federal Bureau of Investigation, would be taking over in place of St. Louis County Police Department.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the county police was "not aware of reports that they are being relieved of duty."

The Dems have to keep this going and keep attacking the cops because they have nothing else for their base to get worked up over.
This is getting a lot of play now because those journalists and their organizations are outraged that the paramilitary/SWAT capability they support under the auspices of it being used against right wing gun nuts was actually used on them.
No, STL County has a PD, since the CW Interesting history there-has to do with the fed takeover of the state legislature etc). The city has a PD, but Ferguson is in STL County....
The MO Gov is the chief exec over the SLT county PD- an appointed police force unlike all other counties in MO, which are normal elected Sheriffs.
The Current FReepathon Pays For The Current Quarter's Expenses?
Agree about the left posts. In 1970 I stopped in St. Louis before dark after driving from FT Bragg, NC enroute to Omaha for 2 years of college. I decided to buy a new Corvette there as they made them in St Louis then. I made the mistake of getting a room on the east side of the river.
I checked in and did not notice much. About 8 PM I decided to get a drink in the bar. I opened the door and left. I was glad to leave that place in the AM.
I’m not sure it works that way here.
Is there ANY Republican in the chain of command/authority ( real or perceived) to blame?
I don’t think there is. And there are a bunch of Republicans who have been outspoken over these kinds of capabilities and the possibility of them being abused. Since January 2009 it’s been the Obama Admin thats been putting MRAPS into the hands of local police forces.
The Dems own this mess, IMHO.

Let’s send those Bureau of Land Management “cattle cops”, they want to play badazz, give them the opportunity.
No way the county can afford to fight these guerillas alone.
Probably half a million of their budget has been destroyed by these leeches.
Huffpo, Salon, Infowars are the only media covering SWAT firing teargas at media and dismantling their setups.
Also, consider that civil unrest can turn out people who will vote more Conservative.
Nixon (not a Conservative, but more conservative than his Dem opponents) capitalized pretty well on the uprising at the 68 Dem convention and resulting “police riot”, then did the same after the ‘72 Miami convention disturbances.
Thnx.
Which is precisely why the Mainstream Media is trying to downplay what’s going on.
If Bush were in office, this would be bigger than Katrina.
Yeah, that worked out real well with the Occupy anarchy and the 2012 election.
I don’t recall a lot of anarchy from Occupy. Just a bunch of spoiled rich kids exerimenting in urban camping and complainig that the catering wasn’t up to their standards.
When it got ugly in Cairo, Libya, Syria and Ukraine (etc), the US demanded that the governments not curtail the protestors.
They can and will blame the republican, white mayor of the predominately black city of Ferguson, Mo.
Scrolling through the channels last night and when I got to MSNBC, the first thing I heard was, "We are here in Ferguson, Mo., a city of 60,000 people". A fat lie. Ferguson is closer to 20,000.
I care more about keeping the locals in lineand taking the fuel from thier fires....I will let the PR pressure take care of any reform needed in the local Pd.
The NG had no part in the brown case and won’t be viewed the same by the protestors or thuggies who will taunt cops but probably won’t dare taunt soldiers....if you catch my drift...
You have GOT to be kidding!
I hope that was sarcasm too
