HOUSTON, Texas Members of the Texas National Guard currently in training at Camp Swift, near Austin, have been told to stand by for a personal briefing from Texas Governor Rick Perry. Perry is expected to arrive at Camp Swift this morning to brief the troops on his expectations of their deployment.
It is still not clear as to exactly where this first batch of troops will be deployed, according to one of the soldiers currently at Camp Swift. The soldier has been at the camp receiving training this week and expects to be deployed somewhere along the border this weekend.
Approximately 300 soldiers are in this particular training group. He also revealed the soldiers will be traveling and patrolling in military vehicles.
The first group of soldiers who were trained last week have been ordered to remain at Camp Swift to train the following waves of soldiers. They will remain at Swift for two months.
The soldiers are also being trained in the use of advanced surveillance systems such as the Ratheon LRAS (Long Range Advanced Scout) systems. These systems can be used to detect illegal crossings of the border, but also to search for people being smuggled through ranch lands to avoid border patrol checkpoints like the one in Falfurrias.
Public Information Officers from both the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas National Guard have been extremely tight lipped about releasing any information regarding the deployment.

"More than that, it shows Perry to be a despicable coward, afraid to use what lawful authority he has
I'm more than a little suspicious that he is an open borders politician, simply looking at his actions it appears all he's doing is putting up the appearance of "doing something" so that those who aren't open borders won't evict his arse in future political arenas."
Sure seems to me that you are pre-judging Gov. Perry as a "despicable coward" with nothing evident to support your judgment. At least, he is stepping up which is more than the lily-livered Romney did during the campaign.
New York and other states ARE acting.... to welcome and support the illegals, give them drivers licenses and all kinds of other goodies
They will be armed.
300...
It’s a good start.
Really?
How many letters did you send, how many replies have you received?
> They don't want to put a hole in their budget by deploying the guard.
That's probably true.
Perry is trying to get some back by suing the Feds but it's no slam-dunk. They're a bunch of political tools who are only worried about their next election.
So is Perry; as evidenced by a stupid "observation" mission.
I have no respect for them.
I have very little myself.
They could have jumped in when Perry moved but you didn't hear a peep, did you?
No.
But, then again, they could understand that Perry's doing a kabuki show for everyone.
Why is this in CAPS? This deployment means nothing because Perry has refused to grant the arrest powers. He seems content to remain a vassal of King Obama and not incur the wrath of the mighty La Raza.
I wonder how many government operatives with overly-aggressive trigger fingers are in the group? BANG!..Whooopsy!
Yes indeed.
Folks should listen to YOU instead, because you .. well ...
Just because! You know better!
Shouldn’t you be off somewhere promoting stolen videos?

You gotta love Texas. They won their independence from Mexico and now they are going to stop Mexico from invading them. Remember the Alamo.
You keep saying this is an observation mission. It isn’t. It’s a force-multiplier mission. The TNG has the authority to detain according to TX AG Abbott. Perry hasn’t given them authority to arrest yet, but they can detain and call BP to come get illegals or call TX DPS to come arrest criminals for state and federal crimes. They won’t be sitting around sucking their thumbs.
So the NG will catch the invaders and turn them over to the feds who will let them go inside the US.
brilliant!
The men in that picture, in that time, with that Supreme Commander in front of them, wouldn’t have put up with one-tenth of what we are experiencing right now.
My father was one of them (but not in that picture). He was Airborne, made the jump into Germany in March 45.
Were he alive today, he’d be livid.
Uh... No. When LA rioted, it took two days to call out the Guard and initially they were deployed without ammo. It took another day for ammo to be authorized.
All hat, no cattle is you. LMAO. La Raza Rickie sucks. Your DemocRat hero. ROFL
Because actions and history aren't evidence?
Try this or this.
Heck, even Alex Jones knows Perry is pulling Bait and Switch on us.
At least, he is stepping up which is more than the lily-livered Romney did during the campaign.
I'll grant that; I've no love for Romney at all.
That was one reason I didn't send to NY.
"Define your terms so we know what you're talking about".
I will vote for Perry no problem.
Good job Governor Perry.
How could anyone argue with such a well stated group of points.
Clearly most everyone here is out of their league when addressing you.
