New York - Barneys has agreed to pay $525,000 to resolve allegations that minorities were singled out as suspected shoplifters at its flagship store, part of a spate of racial profiling complaints against major retailers last year.

$525k plus a new wave of permissible shoplifting...
You may be right about the fallout from this. I can imagine that based on this news, more aggressive minority shoplifter criminal types will target this place now. They will think that its an easy target because they can claim racism there.

Actually, why bother to shoplift? Just go in and act suspiciously like a shoplifter, wait to get pinched (or questioned), and then file a complaint and negotiate a settlement.
Similar to the auto accident scams that people pull on insurance company.
HINT. Blacks are over represented in arrests and incarceration because they are over represented in illegal acts. Most notably violent acts and acts of property damage.

With the prices of their clothes, everything way over priced, 525K should be a drop in the bucket.
I think you are right. They can go in there, act suspiciously, claim racism, and cite this settlement that this place has a documented history of racism. Shake down target, sad to say.
See reports from St. Louis concerning “shoplifting” in the past couple of days. Of course that kerfuffle was caused by white cops(?) killing another child from the youth choir for absolutely no reason what-so-ever.
Who is getting the 1/2 mil?

If you step into a cage of 100,000 “killer bees” and know that there are at least 25 that don’t sting........do you step in knowing that you won’t be stung?
Does a bear poop in the woods? Gee! The answer is pretty clear to anyone with common sense, better yet....”real world” experience.
Ask anyone that’s ever worked in loss prevention who the largest group of shoplifters are. Walk into a retail store and follow a Latino group with children around for a while; especially if any of them are carrying backpacks or large coats. You’ll see its whole family affair; children involved too. But lawyers don’t care about truth unless it wiil set their client free.
