The writer isn't worried about an overbearing government that has taken control of children's lemonade stands and school bake sales. That's ok with him, but conservatives who want to follow the constitution scare him to death. What a loser.

"Gentlemen, we shall call adherence to the law 'Constitutional Conservatism'. What say ye?"

"So say we all!!!"

In order to transform society, you must redefine both meaning and emotion for the key words and concepts that make up that society's self image and mission statement.

Definition purity and absolutes must be watered down and replaced by all inclusiveness that blurs lines into insignificance.

The Constitution is of course the core of our nation's most basic definition and the biggest constraint on our national behavior, with the the Holy Bible performing similar functions for individuals.

Therefore, to fundamentally transform American society so as to align it with whatever "new world order" is being created, both the Constitution and Bible MUST be rendered as toothless, archaic obstacles, offensive to the new "normal" so a majority actively discard both and ridicule those who don't.

What are our most basic American definitions?

Our border and citizenship are two basic definitions and both are aggressively being redefined on a national level, especially the NBC requirement for President, while our civics and historical knowledge are being diluted year by year in classrooms across the nation. (Remember Reagan's warning?)

Marriage and family are under similar assault with marriage being redefined to be whatever you want it to be.

Even human life in the womb has been redefined as little more than unwanted tissue mass, easily discarded once redefined.

That should be enough to open eyes to the Hand that wrote the philosophy we are being made to follow with each definition we re-write. But when playing the game, unfortunately, once dealt a hand it's hard to step away from the table to gain perspective.

Those definitions are the control rods for our reactions. Remove them and things heat up, eventually reaching critical mass.

For example, we used to know by Pledge that the US is a "Republic", but now common opinion is that the US is a "Democracy".

Democracy... while it lasts is more bloody than either [aristocracy or monarchy].
Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself.
There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide.
~John Adams

Sorry, John Adams, but we want what we want and we will have it.

These primaries are forcing the allegedly mainstream candidates to move far to the right and the performance of the past few years proves that when this happens the Party stays far right as a result of this threat.

So the GOP has been staying "far right" for the past few years.

Huh. Could have fooled me.

The only parts that aren’t scary to them are the rights to unlimited abortion and perversion (liberals believe they are Constitutional right), and the ones that protect the rights of Muslim terrorists and illegal aliens. A political forum was held at our church several years ago. People wrote down questions for the moderator to ask candidates (all Dems). Most people were asking questions about roads and schools. My question, addressed to Maryland state senator Robert Dorman was “what is your understanding of the establishment clause in the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution regarding religion in government and public life.” He squared his shoulders and said “ I agree with the Constitution that there should be a wall of separation between church and state.” Afterward, another candidate asked me if I got to ask a question. I told her which one I asked, and she said “Ohhhh, that was YOUR question. I’m sure Senator Dorman answered it to your satisfaction.” I had to explain the establishment clause to her, and where the “wall of separation” term originated. She admitted she had actually never read the Constitution, and walked away.

this must be the new journ-o-list talking point. Does anyone know if this propagandist is one of the 100,000 on that left wing coordination list?

They need a new boogey man. Look for October’s “take away your social security” AP newswire report.

the Constitution itself must be a pretty scary document to them.

It is.....It's that "pesky" Constitution that stands in the way of them implementing their Bolshevik schemes, it must be destroyed.

A rational analysis of history shows that the principles of individual liberty and free markets were directly responsible for the overwhelming success of the American experiment. A similar examination of Socialism/Collectivism over the same period demonstrates the utter catastrophe of that ideology. So what do today’s “progressive” thinkers embrace?

The epic failure.

Which says a lot more about their intellectual abilities than it does about the “horrors” of constitutional adherence.

"...a governing model of strictly limited (domestic) government that is at the same time devoted to the preservation of “traditional culture” is the only legitimate governing model for this country, now and forever, via the divinely inspired agency of the Founders."

Ohhh...The horror!

It basically holds that a governing model of strictly limited (domestic) government that is at the same time devoted to the preservation of “traditional culture” is the only legitimate governing model for this country, now and forever, via the divinely inspired agency of the Founders. That means democratic elections, the will of the majority, the need to take collective action to meet big national challenges, the rights of women and minorities, the empirical data on what works and what doesn’t—all of those considerations and more are so much satanic or “foreign” delusions that can and must be swept aside in the pursuit of a Righteous and Exceptional America.

Those are actually Ed Kilgore's words, not the author's. The leap of logic he takes from a fairly accurate description of the source of conservative ideas to the hysterical and inaccurate depiction of their implications is abrupt enough to be painfully obvious. Democratic elections and the "will of the majority" are not antithetical to the Constitution at all, the Constitution merely provides a structure in which their absolute demands are moderated by respect for civil rights. Which, incidentally, also encompasses "the rights of women and minorities". How does Kilgore imagine those to have been nurtured anywhere other than within a Constitutional framework? Clearly the "empirical data" he cites show that an absolutist view of democratic elections and the will of the majority is a route to tyranny, and the Founders cited examples of them: the Athens that murdered its own victorious generals at the behest of demagogues, for example.

Kilgore ignores the one basic function of the Constitution: it's the one thing that keeps us from shooting one another. He is free to ignore that at his peril.

Well, I'm over 60, but that picture dates back to when my father used to listen..., uh, I mean subject me to listen to that crap.

Never been a fan of C & W.

Dolly Parton sounds like fingernails on a black board.

And I'm ducking and covering, 'cause I know a lot folks think that her warbling is actually singing, but I'm well over it, thank you.

I do actually like some country, but most of it has to do with drinking, momma dying, losing some broad to another guy, drinking, pickup trucks, drinking, losing some broad, drinking...well, you get the picture.

It's a great piece (unintentionally, of course), because it shows how intellectually bankrupt the Left is.

[Pat Roberts] voted against an appropriations measure that included a project he had long sought for his alma mater, Kansas State University,

Seriously?? You're whining about Roberts not spending money on OVERT PORK? People who don't attend KSU should not be spending money on KSU. It's only rocket science to idiot Leftists.

and opposed a UN Treaty banning discrimination against people with disabilities over the objections of his revered Kansas Senate predecessors Bob Dole and Nancy Kassebaum.

Another laughably stupid statement. Businesses should be allowed to hire and serve who they wish. Forcing a business to make a special accommodation for 10 people or to hire subpar workers is anathema to capitalism. GEE WHY DOES DELL NOT HIRE HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUTS MUST BE DISCRIMINATION DERP DERP

among the Birchers

OH NO, NOT PEOPLE WHO ARE ANTI-COMMUNIST! HOW DARE YOU TRY TO KEEP STALINIST SCUMBAGS OUT OF OFFICE YOU EVIL CONSERVATIVES DERP DERP

and in the Christian Right,

HOW DARE YOU CHRISTIANS TRY TO ENCOURAGE A SOCIETY WHICH DOESN'T ALLOW THEFT OR MURDER, PROMOTES DECENCY, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, AND A STRONG WORK ETHIC DERP DERP. (If anyone can find me a secularist or atheistic society which does not have a strong entitlement mentality, please let me know. America's entitlement mentality corresponded with the rise of secularism in the 60s.)

That means democratic elections

It's good that people are finally waking up to the sham that is democracy. Under the Bolshevist "one man, one vote", Pedro and Pauline can rob Peter. The more taxes a man pays and the more property a man owns, the more powerful his vote should be. Michael Dell's vote should be worth a million times the vote of a Barack Soetoro.

the will of the majority

The will of the majority in Nazi Germany was to murder all of the Jews, you stupid liberal POS.

the need to take collective action to meet big national challenges, the rights of women and minorities

Bolshevist claptrap. Society's problems have been solved by a few great men, none of whom needed the help of the government. Any great woman or minority would have a greater chance to shine if they are not burdened by the weaklings and the "victim mentality".

the empirical data on what works and what doesn’t

That belongs to conservatives, and is best deduced from a bottom-up, free market perspective.

The right is organized, both philosophically and institutionally as an enemy of New Deal liberalism.

The American economy has been unstable and trash ever since the establishment of the income tax, the establishment of the Federal Reserve, and the establishment of New Deal central-planning programs which wouldn't see the light of day if the government actually had to deal with the consequences of failure. Wilson and FDR are the worst tyrants in American history (Lincoln gets a dishonorable mention for the Revenue Act of 1861, Eisenhower gets one for the Department of Health/Education/Welfare, JFK gets one for formulating the Immigration Act of 1965, Nixon gets one for establishing the EPA and divorcing the dollar from the gold standard, and LBJ/Carter/Clinton/Obama get their dishonorable mentions for deliberately killing American soldiers. All of these Presidents were Bolshevist garbage in many, many other regards).

gun proliferation zealots

Shameless authoritarianism/Nazism/Stalinism.

but until recently it was confined to the fever swamps around fringy characters like the Christian Reconstructionist Howard Philips and the Constitution Party

Care to tell us what's wrong with Christian Reconstructionism? Oh, wait, you can't, because you're a Leftist degenerate.

The assets of Obama voters and people who vote RINO in primaries need to be seized to pay off the national debt, and as penance for enabling a wholescale destruction of life, liberty, and private property.
