Angry Republican Leaders Ready To Shut Door On Open Primaries Changes sought after Mississippi Democrats help Thad Cochran beat Chris McDaniel
I have been a longtime supporter of closed primaries to choose our candidates for office, said Chairman of the Republican National Committee Reince Priebus, this is a position I have held for a long time and is consistent with the ... more > By Ralph Z. Hallow - August 6, 2014 CHICAGO Any party that allows its opponents to help pick its candidates in open primaries is a PPINO a political party in name only say many Republican officials at their annual summer meeting.
Republican National Committee members and activists are still seething about reports that longtime Sen. Thad Cochran, Mississippi Republican, enlisted Democrats to help him win his tough primary contest this summer against state Sen. Chris McDaniel, who was backed by the tea party.

Zactly. First thing I thought too. Toss us a little bone for our troubles after a corrupted Mississippi win against McDaniel, which I hope craters right under the feet of Haley Barbour’s syndicate.
This is the first time I am aware that open primaries are arranged by state law, in some quarters, and not by party rules.
Reince, rinse, repeat.
Excellent fix!
Do something about it, Reince!
They might want to add that all primaries will happen the same day.
We don’t even have open primaries in NY. What were other states thinking?
If you consider Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee to be blue states. They are all open primary states. Do they have double the RINO senators? Yes. Should they have any RINO senators? No. That they are RINO senators in the South tells you something about the effectiveness of open primaries. Made to order for RINOs.
Reince Priebus was hand picked by Haley Barbour. There is no way backstabbing Barbour will ever allow republicans to usurp his power in Mississippi even if he has to pay the entire democratic party in Mississippi to GOTV.
The GOPe got caught with it’s hand in the cookie jar.....
What else are they going to say....?
The reason so many states went to open primaries is because the “independent” voter was locked out of the primaries since in many states closed primaries are for the party you belong to....
There’s no reason an “independent” should vote in a party’s primary. If they can’t even pick a party, why should they be able to pick it’s candidate?
Why should a party’s candidate be decided by voters who are either uncommitted, in the case of independents, or actually in opposition, in the case of Dems voting in GOP open primaries?
Open primaries are idiotic and have done nothing but provide room for fraud and manipulation and have given us endless numbers of bad candidates and worse office holders.
——Theres no reason an independent should vote in a partys primary. If they cant even pick a party, why should they be able to pick its candidate?——
Spot on....
Btw, my post was not an endorsement of open primaries just the moronic reasoning behind them....
More GOPe hot air... Stop talking about it and do it!
Close the gate after the mule gets out of barn Mississippi ping.
exactly.
this scum is a K street plant .
The Grahnesty, thads , McShames , Christies , can not win in closed primaries .
Quite true. And you'll find among those regulations, those governing the use of public financing.
The Republican marketers have decided that controversy of any kind ... anything that a "Soccer Mom," or "Single Mom," might find in the least bit disturbing to her MSM-directed POV ... will cost them the Female Vote. Talk to a woman about it. If white female voters were reliably 51-3% non-Democrat, this would be an entirely different country.
A witches brew of minority voters, special interests, and women combine to make the Democrats the default political party of the United States. The Republicans feel that to win a major election, they must pander to these groups.
Of course, these groups, except the women on very rare occasions, never vote for Republicans, anyway.
It varies from state to state. In Mississippi, it is state law that prevents closing primaries - there is no registration by party affiliation.

Same is true in Texas, and the Dems often cross over vote for a weak GOP candidate in the Primary in hopes that a Dem can win the General.
One big problem I noticed in the TN Primary was that Lamar A. had an easy win because there were about 5 or so opponents and some of those on the lower rungs took votes away from Carr. .....Races that run in a ‘fake’ candidate to take votes away from a likely winner to allow an incumbent to win are also rigged by the GOPe machine.
Congratulations - all of you have done some research and are correct in your findings.
There is no excuse for red states to still have open primary systems (especially not Texas - IMO, that’s why we still have RINO Sen. Cornyn).
Again IMO, open primary systems and the calendar order of State’s Primaries are a big part of the reason our country is in so much trouble. For many years, the GOP Presidential candidate has already been declared by the time the Texas primary is held, which suppresses voter turnout for other races.
