Braley voted for Obamacare and insulted Iowa’s farmers. This is just another straw on the camel’s back.

If my neighbor brought over free range eggs, I would gladly take them and then ask if she wanted to stay for chicken dinner.

Here, in our county, there is a current controversy over chickens in residential unincorporated areas.

The county passed a statute several years ago, when Vietnamese Pot Bellied pigs became ‘popular’ as pets, that banned keeping ‘animals that are normally found on farms’ in residential areas of the county (not the incorporated parts, since they set their own rules).

A woman recently challenged that statute, because she has chickens on her property, in a pen and coop. The neighbors don’t mind, but the county says the chickens, about a dozen, have to go.

It is to be debated at the next County Commission meeting. She has the support of her commissioner and her neighbors, and me as well, but I live in another part of the county.

What gets me is we have all these Mexicans and Central American immigrants here and they tend to have chickens in their yards, and nobody says a thing about it. A ‘group’ down the street from me, (I say ‘group’ because they rent a house and several people stay there, mostly grown men, not a ‘family’) has chickens, and I hear them crow in the evenings when I get home and work in the yard. It doesn’t bother me.

There are others in nearby neighborhoods that do the same.

But if I were to get some chickens, which I would like to do, I’m sure the wrath of the county inspectors would soon come down on my head.

I’m going to wait and see what happens with the rule after the Commission meeting(s)...........................

Given the choice between some good nitrogenous chicken droppings on my lawn that disappear with the next rainfall and a steaming pile of doggie doo, guess which one I'd prefer?

Given the choice between my neighbor's dog which yaps incessantly and a rooster greeting the sunrise, guess which one sounds more pleasant.

You can give chickens stinking rotten food and they greet it as enthusiastically as if you'd just delivered them a gourmet meal. I find them therapeutic as well.

Braley as “an elitist, condescending turd.”

He will fit right in as a United States Senator.

the horror the chickens walked onto their property .
I can’t believe that there are people who would make a complaint about such trivial crap like this. Have some people not got better things to do.

Now that is passive-aggressive....

“We aren’t going to accept your eggs — and we have filed a formal complaint against you.” Carolyn took her complaint to their neighborhood homeowners’ association board...

That's the way arrogant jerks and manipulators handle even minor complaints, when a simple conversation with the neighbor could probably have solved the problem.

Why did the chicken cross Braley’s property line?

To receive his suet.

exactly.
First getting all pissed off about this trivial crap is pathetic , but to make an official complaint without even talking to the neighbor just tells me what arrogant , pathetic elitist turds they are.
All they had to do was to ask the neighbor to try and keep the chickens in their own back yard, but instead they do this.

More likely they’re acting as a early warning alarm to spur the Democrats to leave (voluntarilly or not) the race so a more electable candidate can step in.

Not only does he have a deranged fear of chickens, he was fired from every honest job he ever had.

It's starting to look like the Dems are snake-bit this election. Yesterday it was Montana, now it's Braley making one unforced error after another. And didn't Michelle Nunn's campaign get egg on it's face a few days ago? I didn't credit the talk about a "GOP wave" this year before now but I'm starting to re-think.

I live in one of those “used to be rural ag” areas that the county is trying to tax like a suburban subdivision, so they try to treat it like one.

Having to go through the county commissioners myself, because the appraiser’s department is a collective ass.

You are mis-perceiving the class difference/grievance here. Actually, the chattering class in DC pays $5/dozen for those range-free eggs (and won’t eat any other kind). Range-free eggs are a kind of holy grail among the foodies of this class. They’d perceive anyone who’d refuse them as a gift to be a low-life idiot, regardless of party affiliation.

Range free eggs are the ones sold in every store. I think you mean free-range.
