The University of Mississippi will require university officials to use discretion when identifying the school as Ole Miss because it could be understood as a racist nickname.
UMs longstanding nickname is beloved by the vast majority of its students and alumni, says a statement from Ole Miss. But a few, especially some university faculty, are uncomfortable with it. Some dont want it used at all and some simply dont want it used within the academic context.

Is the sports team nickname still the Rebels???
If so, will liberals bring pressure to change it? Given the negative historic reference and all that?
Will liberals move on from their fixation on American Indian sports nicknames to others such as Rebels, which they would also object to?
Can the south ever do enough penance to suit the liberals who have such angst about these issues????

Only if you put an accent over the “e”.

A tiny minority playing the race card will demand a sports team change their name despite the popularity the name has with its followers.
And the “Redskin”-haters claimed this was just an isolated incident and not part of a bigger trend.
Liberals never stop assaulting the country. Never.

Truly a slippery slope. There is literally no end to the "Revising History" PC police on this crap. Just because "a few" are "uncomfortable" (WTF?!), Ole Miss is going to ditch "an affectionate name for the university that the "vast majority of respondents" want to continue? From the article ...
Emma Jennings, a student at Ole Miss: Does changing our email address URL from olemiss.edu to umiss.edu, promote diversity? Jennings wrote in the letter. Or does it suggest that we are a school that is ashamed of itself and ashamed of its past?
By the same PC Police logic, since I'm made "uncomfortable" by the Folsom Street Fair, that means it should end too, right?
To: markomalley
But a few ... are uncomfortable with it.
More PC crap that likely will result in new rules by the minority.
These types will always find something to be 'uncomfortable' about. And they continue to complain because it works for them. These things are small power plays that, over time, mount up to significant victories in changing the culture -- one 'uncomfortable' name at a time.

Wow! And for all these years, I thought Ole Miss was sexist, not racist.
Maybe they should call it Ole Ms.
