NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) The area is on track for our coolest summer since 2009, but thats leaving some people with seasonal depression, CBS 2s Cindy Hsu reported. Staten Island high school seniors Gabriell Vinci and Antoinette DiStefano said summer is going by way too fast.
Its very depressing, Vinci said.
Even though summer is only halfway over, Donna Barnes said she is feeling the frantic rush.
I have to admit, Ive got a little bit of a panic of like theres so many things that I wanted to do that I havent done yet, Barnes said.
Barnes said she is trying to slow things down with pictures; she snapped one of the green trees in Central Park during the summer in the same spot she took a picture of snow-covered trees back in February.
Psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert said this years summer sadness has a lot to do with the weather.
Following the long, cold winter, they just expected a really long, hot summer, so theyre not seeing that, Alpert said.
As CBS 2 reported, this July was the coolest one the area has seen in five years and so far, there have been no heat waves.
Back-to-school sales are already in full swing and best friends Anya Milberg and Lyla said they feel the summer rush.
It goes really fast because then suddenly youre back at school and then youre like, Oh no, winter is coming, its going to be so cold, 10-year-old Anya said.
Candice Hoyes said she is feeling it too, especially with her daughter growing up so fast and at summer day camp for the first time.
It does feel shorter, it feels like it flew by, Hoyes said.
Meanwhile, children like James keep dreaming and told CBS 2 he wants the summer to last a whole year.
THAT was depressing.
This summer is invigorating. Lows in the low 70s with occasional cloud cover and showers. Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
Screw these New Yorkers that can't enjoy the weather. I'm loving it.
Sounds like a moderate summer here in Phoenix -- like this one -- except we do usually see a few rainstorms.
The first summer I spent in Dallas, in 1980, was a hot one for Dallas, with over 100 days of over 100 degrees. That pretty accurately describes an average summer in Phoenix.
And I love it!
Well there ain’t no cure for the Summertime Blues.
where is the wambulance??
Yep. Only a handful of 100 degree days in north central Texas so far. If New York wants them, we can trade.
Yes, the cool weather in Chicago is welcomed.
I’m all in for global cooling!
I am terribly sad that the New York Times is not yet bankrupt. Oh well, it won’t wait long.
“Im liking the 70 degree weather more than the 90 degree with humidity we usually get in New York.”
Really; the tree-huggers should be thrilled that we don’t have to run the air conditioning 24/7. In a few weeks this weather (which isn;t really unusual) will be blamed for a lackluster summer for tourism.
Ain’t no cure for the Summertime blues....
Same here in South Jersey.
Journalistic malpractice....... crapola.
This is worse than drivelous fluff.
BTW...... we are having a very cool summer. It is fabulous. The temps seldom rise above 85. The mornings and evenings are very very nice. The vegetation is still lush across the countryside.
School started here yesterday.
We’ve just past the solar maximum. The 10.7 Cm flux average at its high was less than 140. Last solar cycle maximum the flux average maxed at around 200.
Just wait ‘til this winter ...and the next 5 winters after that.
And August, like July will be announced as one of the top hottest months ever.
Mostly lefties gone "limp" with their global warming madness.
OMG!!!! Global Warming has ceased. (sarc)
I love this summer in Georgia...a respite and a blessing...
Algore is very sad.
Interesting comments all...here in western Oregon we are having a hot summer...not complaining (yet)...but my Web feet are dried out.
That’s not climate. That’s weather. They have nothing to do with each other #illogicalliberalspeak #factscauseignorance #areallyinconvenienttruth
