The Army says it will soon notify 550 majors that they must leave the service by next spring as part of a budget-driven downsizing of the service.
Some of those soldiers will get the bad news while they are on the front lines in Afghanistan.
The Army has close to 514,000 soldiers now, but due to budget cuts must be down to 510,000 by October, and down to 490,000 by October 2015.

Am not a Military person but remember the last time I voted. A bar code was attached to each ballot. Each ballot was scanned. Bet they know how I voted.
I agree, they do likely know! We are supposed to have a secret ballot and even if we did there is no way they can do it from foreign countries or through the mail without knowing.
Oh, there will be a pattern. You bet your ass there will be. Anyone who thinks we are heading in the wrong direction, anyone who does no support the homosexual agenda, anyone who does not toe the party line...
we (you and I) are simply weary; well know for certain I am ... and Waltzing Matilda seems to have been just yesterday. Knowing they know tell us their plan though.
I remember. Every soldier in my unit remembers. We also remember that the results angered the PTB because we would not.
Weary Weeks. Thank You for your Years! All around the green bush far and near ... Thank You!
Maybe the results are the reason that they are doing what they are doing now.

Ha Ha. But, it's best not to join the parade of the ignorant and misinformed on this issue. There is no purge, never has been. If one were to occur, you would know.
This is a necessary consequence of reducing the size of the Army, a "major" Obama objective. He doesn't like armies, he would like to see them go away, especially our own. When you reduce the size of the Army you need fewer Majors, and Captains (as we have seen a short time ago) and so forth on down the line. They must go, and go they will, culled from the ranks based on the the strength of their records. Some will be little missed, but others are sacrifice to the aims of politicians who have little need for them now that the fighting and dying is coming to an end.
It has been so since I joined the Army, and also my father before me. When the Army is done with you they throw you out. This can be a good thing, wars need warm bodies and some are little less. If their blood still flows, then they need to be sent away to find some other gainful pursuit. But, we always cut not just the fat, but muscle, sinew, and bone when it comes to the Army and Marines (the ones who do the fighting and the dying). They pay the price for free cell phones, disability payments, and food stamps. The voters rule.
We did this after World War II, Korea, three times during the Vietnam drawdown, after the First Gulf War, and now it has come again. It's very tough to look the man in the face who has just gotten his notice, especially when you know his combat record and shared his time in hell. As my battalion commander told me when I left Vietnam: "You can love the Army all you want, it's never going to love you back"
There is no purge, that's a myth. What is going on is quite real and that's the complete destruction of our military capability, especially the Army. But, what the hell, there's no difference between Republicans and Democrats.
if they convert to Islam they can stay until retirement or death
It's not a purge. It's a direct result of today's Obamaconomy. People who would've normally gotten out after their time was up are re-enlisting because there isn't much in the civilian world with the pay and bennies we're getting in the military. Combine this with drawdowns and there's little choice but to give service members of all ranks pink slips.
We went through this in the Navy a couple years back and it has been devastating to our manpower. We have the same missions to do and far less assets to do them with.
Hang Tough, Drew!
Or they could take that $11 million sent to enforce Ukrane’s border and give it to our troops. Naw, that wouldn’t destroy America fast enough.
Clinton did the same thing. It was only after 9/11 that people realized how exposed we were and began building the military back up.
Fortunately, what saved us last time was the ability to use technology to make our military more efficient and effective.
You speak with much wisdom my friend...
You are a fool without equal.....thinking Romney would have led America down the same path that this muslim POS impostor has America has followed.
I too am weary, but see my tagline.
Understand ...
“budget driven”. uh-huh.
