That’s what you call a Major Purge —

Ha Ha. But, it's best not to join the parade of the ignorant and misinformed on this issue. There is no purge, never has been. If one were to occur, you would know.

This is a necessary consequence of reducing the size of the Army, a "major" Obama objective. He doesn't like armies, he would like to see them go away, especially our own. When you reduce the size of the Army you need fewer Majors, and Captains (as we have seen a short time ago) and so forth on down the line. They must go, and go they will, culled from the ranks based on the the strength of their records. Some will be little missed, but others are sacrifice to the aims of politicians who have little need for them now that the fighting and dying is coming to an end.

It has been so since I joined the Army, and also my father before me. When the Army is done with you they throw you out. This can be a good thing, wars need warm bodies and some are little less. If their blood still flows, then they need to be sent away to find some other gainful pursuit. But, we always cut not just the fat, but muscle, sinew, and bone when it comes to the Army and Marines (the ones who do the fighting and the dying). They pay the price for free cell phones, disability payments, and food stamps. The voters rule.

We did this after World War II, Korea, three times during the Vietnam drawdown, after the First Gulf War, and now it has come again. It's very tough to look the man in the face who has just gotten his notice, especially when you know his combat record and shared his time in hell. As my battalion commander told me when I left Vietnam: "You can love the Army all you want, it's never going to love you back"

There is no purge, that's a myth. What is going on is quite real and that's the complete destruction of our military capability, especially the Army. But, what the hell, there's no difference between Republicans and Democrats.

RE: Post #30

BINGO!

My SGM in Germany was a 1LT in Vietnam that got RIF’ted. He voluntarily took a bust to E-7 and stayed in for 30 years.

I was in a unit with a former Full Bird Colonel chopper pilot that flew medevac’s in Korea and Vietnam. When he could no longer pass a flight physical, he retired from the Army, joined the National Guard, and took a bust to E-5 to become a company armorer.

I was struggling with my PT test in the Army Guard due to arthritis and shoulder injuries as a garbage man. I joined the Air Guard, took a bust to E-5, and finished out my 20.

If you REALLY love the military, there’s a place for you somewhere.

+1, I got out because of the Graham-Rudman bill in 1987. Everybody’s favorite “Holy Grail President” Ronald Reagan was in charge at the time.

This is nothing new and has all happened before.

Worth repeating. When I was in the USAF, I sometimes told subordinates what your battalion commander said about the Army, only using the USAF instead. When the cuts came, they often seemed to have pulled the names out of a hat.
