The wide-open fight for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination appears certain to showcase a range of credible candidates, who differ from one another in both style and substance.
What the next crop of top-tier GOP contenders may not feature, however, is a woman.
The Republicans taking discernible steps to build the foundations required for White House runs are all men. And for a party trying to close the gender gap, the prospect of an all-male lineup may pose a significant public perception problem.
After the 2012 race saw President Obama defeat Mitt Romney by a double-digit margin among women, one way in which national Republicans have been aiming to do better has been by promoting some of their female rising stars.
Two governors, in particular -- New Mexicos Susana Martinez and South Carolinas Nikki Haley -- are frequently mentioned as vice-presidential material. Additionally, New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Washington Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers -- who delivered the Republican response to the presidents 2014 State of the Union address -- have also been singled out as solid national prospects.
But none of these women has begun to build the kind of fundraising network and political operation required to mount a serious bid for the Oval Office.

Since the 2008 veep candidate, a Governor, was banned from the 2012 GOP convention by a Mormon Bishop, perhaps female republican leaders feel better operating outside, the inside.
Yup, and the Warriors.
Who, in the GOP has ever led US Military Troops into battle?
An Lt Col. Allen West -Dr. Ben Carson ticket would win at the polls, but be extremely painful for the Obama Wing of the Democrat Party.
Black Guys.......I dunno
theyve got the right stuff....but can America shake its current conception of a “black” president in the next two years
West - Carson
Can you imagine the return to pride and confidence in this great nation, that these two would instill?
this far out they are talking candidates for president?
I wouldn’t expect to see anyone (male or female) appear for another 10 months or more. Obviously... Perry, maybe Cruz, and the candidate to be named later.
Why would any of them announce now, and give the enemedia 18 months to savage them. The smart money keeps their powder dry until it’s time to make a move.
Simple:
* Who would you rather have in your foxhole: Col. West or Jeb Bush?
* Who would you rather have abolishing Obamacare: Dr. Carson or Marco Rubio?
Yup.
WEST....and CARSON!!
or Carson and West for that matter
Im betting on the new new york mayor....De Blahsio...being the democrats choice...
prediction ping
West for President, because he is a trained Warrior.
Carson for Veep as he has a superior intellect.
West can Secure us from Invaders, both home and Abroad.
Carson can privatize, or abolish the Federal Welfare State.
After 2018, both can dismantle the Regulation Agencies, that strangle America’s Economy.
I heartily support those choices and the plan presented!
I wish I lived in an America that could still instill confidence in m... that this could be done.
Take heart my FRiend - - - just look what ONE former Foreign Student accomplished in a mere 6 years!
Anything is possible!
I don’t want one.
I don’t want a woman President. Who here believes a woman President can deal with Muslims? Red Chinese? N. Korea?
Seriously?
No, she's not.
There's no one woman wanting to have a candidacy handed to you but to have all of the "GOP gentleman" treat you worse than they treated Barack Obama, or in fact, treat him NOW!
Nope, no GOP woman wants to be treated worse than the real enemies - liberal Democrats by the likes of Romney, McCain, Boehner or McConnell!
She might be, she might not be.
I tend to think she’s still exploring the possibility.
Might not. Might.
I agree, she’s not running and she never seriously considered running in 2012 either.
Too polarized to win. And she is not interested in the job. Although she is interested in people who keep mentioning her name as someone for the job.
RE: Who here believes a woman President can deal with Muslims? Red Chinese? N. Korea?
Well, if we can find another Margaret Thatcher, I’m all in...
There may be men in this party but none of them seem to be particularly offended when liberals say the most nasty, hateful and, yes, sexist things that the Left would *never* tolerate being said about Hillary or Michelle or any liberal woman. Where are the Republican men to get in the Left's faces and call them out on their hatred and bigotry?
So if there are no females in the GOP field in 2016, it's because they saw what was being done to them the last time and decided "no, thanks".
