The Kansas Supreme Court has overturned the death sentences of two brothers convicted of capital murder in the shooting deaths of four people whose bodies were found in a snow-covered Wichita soccer field in 2000.
The state Supreme Court on Friday also struck down three of the four capital murder conviction each against Jonathan and Reginald Carr. But it upheld one capital murder conviction each.
Their cases will return to Sedgwick County District Court for further hearings and a new sentencing.
The court's majority overturned the death sentences because, it said, the presiding judge failed to have separate proceedings for each brother.

This is horrible. These guys are monsters and should be stood up against the wall and shot.
Liberal judge protecting his own?
No need to click on the link.
AMISH PING
I called this when they gave them the death penalty...
Kansans are a fickle bunch.
the Carr’s are animals
google Wichita Massacre.
Terrible. They did horrible things to some of these people before they killed them, too.
Uh, oh. This will surely trigger protests from all the usual quarters. Too bad these guys aren't gay or transgender; then they could walk free.
Wonder what the vote was.
Better yet — “botched” executions where they suffer for two hours before expiring.
Which means they weren't stupid enough to let them go completely. Now either the state has to retry these two or let them get away with life without parole.
The clowns in black robes are at it again!
Darn shame the people can only kill them once.
The media kept the whole gruesome mess pretty well hushed.
This is one of the most evil crimes I have ever read of. The perps make Perry and Hickock look like boy scouts in comparison.
What’s botched about that?
Four dead on a soccer field. The court rules they are responsible for one but not the other three? Aren’t judges supposed to be wise? Evidently we have appointed idiots to the supreme court of Kansas. Oh, never mind. 4 of the 7 were appointed by Kathleen Sebelius. They were expected to be idiots
Another sick judicial travesty.
The judges just decided the three lives taken weren't sufficiently important in relation to some legal technicality, so their memory is to be erased.
I know one woman survived these animals' attempt to execute her - I hope she's planning on naming these judges publicly.
Why don't we turn those poor innocent boys in Knoxville loose, as well.
It is getting to the point where the only way justice will be seen is through the creation of local vigilance committees.
