The white flags - international symbols of surrender - fluttered Tuesday from poles on the stone supports that hold cables above the bridge connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan.
One of the flags, viewed via video, appeared to have faint traces of stars and stripes on it.
Police say it isn't clear what time they were placed there - or by whom.
“It also says a flag is usually freshened every three months. So how many days is a stretch of bright sunny days? I dont know, but I have a sneaking suspicion its longer than the evening of one day, where as the sun set, the webcam could pick out the bright colors of both flags, to the following morning, when they were virtually pure white.”
Link please....I have seen no one say this happened over night...and I’m not aware of any camera’s directly on each flag...
We don’t know when the last time they were changed do we?....was it three months ago?...or last week?
“And what is the meaning of bleach - faded how much? In the entire history of the bridge, we can safely presume that the flags didnt suddenly astonish everyone by turning pure white.”
Well the story I linked about the guy who maintains the flags is 5 years old...and he clearly said “bleached” as in sun bleached....I take that to mean faded or nearly white.
And if he had already had to replace bleached flags...obviously no one noticed those times...which is what I think happened this time...they were sun bleached....again....only now someone noticed before they had been changed.
“Also you didnt forget that inverse-negative thing of one of the flags, did you? Kind of hard for bleaching to do that.”
Again...link please...I have seen nothing to suggest that both flags were not the same official US flags in standard colors.
“There, has enough time been wasted on this obviously inapplicable idea? Because Im done with it.”
Oh...ok...so you are going to dismiss this as an obvious oversite in flag maintenance and timing and peg it up to some kind of conspiracy....
Ever heard of Occam’s razor?
I will be waiting for the links proving the flags were not identical or the proof it “happened over night” as I have seen no evidence of either assertion.....while I have now seen evidence that the flags have been sun bleached in the past and needed to be replaced regularly.
Knock yourself out.
Bye.
Hey...it was a theory...and they just released more information....such as someone placed foil pans over the lights about 3 am and showed video of the pans on the light fixtures...
That blows my theory out of the water....I can admit when I’m wrong.
At least I’m not a dismissive *insert invective here*.
Yes, they most certainly could. Think, not only is it not that easy to get up to the top of the bridge but they got up BOTH sides, and they must have been up there a good little while.
Supposedly there are patrol cars at both ends at all times, but yet nobody realized this was being done.
It’s actually quite terrifying.
It doesn’t seem to me that that story lives up to its headline.
The percentage is trivial.
The fading is so interesting. Wondering if a low intensity laser could do that from some distance, fading out the dye colors.
There was an embarrassing turn-out on election day. Wilhelm’s “landslide” amounted to 70% of 20% of registered voters.
But you are. While invoking "Occam's razor" you continued to ignore the reversed/negative white flag, which couldn't possibly have been done by "bleach." Not to mention that the idea of bleaching two giant flags in the middle of the night, in the dark, on the top of a bridge, rather than just replacing them with prepared flags is obviously absurd. Why not just say they brought a sewing machine and tools of white thread and stitched it together up there? And you believe the giant turkey pan story? Really? Why, because compared to the gallons of bleach, a couple of giant banging aluminum turkey pans were nothing? Compared to, say, a role of aluminum duct tape or a can of spray paint?
Bet you also believe they got past the gates and guards and cameras unseen too.
Again...link please...I have seen nothing to suggest that both flags were not the same official US flags in standard colors.
Three seconds on Google...

Low intensity laser or something like that.
"WOW" factor ratchets up, FRiend!
Black flags would be ISIS or ISIL.
Or POW/MIA flags.
Yes. You are right. I know I wouldn’t complain about that, though.
