Senior U.S. intelligence officials said Tuesday that Russia was responsible for "creating the conditions" that led to the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, but they offered no evidence of direct Russian government involvement.
The intelligence officials were cautious in their assessment, noting that while the Russians have been arming separatists in eastern Ukraine, the U.S. had no direct evidence that the missile used to shoot down the passenger jet came from Russia.
The officials briefed reporters Tuesday under ground rules that their names not be used in discussing intelligence related to last week's air disaster, which killed 298 people.

Well, I’m satisfied. /s
Believable? Or just the Bamster sucking up to Putin? Showing his flexibility.
Pretty sure it was the surface to air missile fairy that shot the plane down. The Russians had nothing to do with it.
And you can trust Bammy on this one. He’s the authority on fairies.
...and it was not related to terrorism in any way.
This administration and its sycophantt press lost all credibility with me years ago.
I’m surprised they’re not blaming it on an offensive You Tube video.
It’s obvious that Putin didn’t push the button but his people did and it was an accident.. why can’t they just admit it and move on?
What is the world supposed to believe, the guy that ordered a polonium enema on his opposition or their lying eyes. Yea, everyone has one of these launchers, just ask moose and squirrel.
Have we examined the launcher? Checked serial numbers on the missiles they have with it versus shipping manifests to see if any are missing? Found the wreckage of the detonated missile? Tracked it back to its manufacturing plant?
This is like saying that I have no direct evidence that O.J. Simpson killed Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman because I didn't do any of the investigation.
Is it true that AP stands for all propaganda?

They have something on Obama and he is trying to save face.
The point is, why report this and then back off unless you are stupid?
Oh, I answered my own question.
And if there was, we’d cover it up because we’re currently being led by cowards.
AP has chosen a quite misleading title. If someone just reads the title and skips the article then they’ll get a totally different idea from what the text actually says.
by design
Well, if our government says so, I believe it.

Not sure I agree, body of article seems to track pretty well with headline.
...offered no evidence of direct Russian government involvement.
...the U.S. had no direct evidence that the missile used to shoot down the passenger jet came from Russia.
But the officials said they did not know who fired the missile or whether any Russian operatives were present at the missile launch.
In terms of who fired the missile, "we don't know a name, we don't know a rank and we're not even 100 percent sure of a nationality,"
The officials said the most likely explanation for why the plane was shot down is that the rebels made a mistake.
Some outlets led with that, others have taken a different approach. The problem is the Obama administration messed up with this briefing, giving Putin a PR boost, such that Ben Rhodes is now out doing damage control.
One thing is for damn sure, this isn’t going to help pressure Europe to heed Obama’s call to raise sanctions on Putin. But, of course, that’s how the cretin-in-chief wanted it all along.
