Yesterday, moments after Secretary of State John Kerry departed for the Middle East to attempt to broker a ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza war, the State Department issued a warning recommending that U.S. citizens consider the deferral of non-essential travel to Israel due to the threat from long-range rockets launched from Gaza.
Interesting timing.
Long-range rocket fire from Gaza has been dramatically curtailed in recent days by the IDFs ground operation, and was heaviest at the beginning of the war some two weeks ago. Despite Hamas and Islamic Jihad barrages of M75 and M302 rockets fired at Tel Aviv and Jerusalem on July 8th, 9th, and 10th, no travel warning was issued.

I’m going looking on my own but we need to support Israeli business.
“If a civilian airliner is shot down by a missile fired from Gaza, then the fun will really begin.”
Not to mention an immediate international call for a cease fire, The US would blame Israel, and there would be calls at the UN for sanctions against.....Israel.
Would give Hamas time to rest and rearm.
A Malaysian jet was shot down over Ukraine by separatists/terrorists - and Israel has rockets flying around regularly in between cease fires.
Cancelling flights is to avoid the billion dollar price tag of lawsuits after one is shot down over Israel.

The Israelis are winning. So Kerry ramps up the “danger” of Hamas rockets. The entire State Department is sophomoronic.
“Interesting timing”
I’ll say.
If they had issued the warning at the beginning, then they would have VALIDATED Israel’s claim that the rocket attacks present a real problem to “the Jews” (as they see them)...and therefore implying that Israel’s response is appropriate.
Since Israel isn’t going to take orders from the US anyway, now they use the cover of the Ukrainian attack to, essentially, impose sanctions on Israel - without having to use that term.
In any case, most AMERICANS (i.e., not our government) can see through this quite easily and many of us, me included, will expedite our efforts to visit that country.
The FAA is covering for the failure of Lurch. The intent is to force a cease fire to regain the lost face.
