A defiant Todd Akin on Thursday conceded he “misspoke some words” regarding his infamous 2012 comments on rape, but he cast blame on those in both parties for politicizing them.

“I misspoke some words,” Akin conceded to host Chuck Todd.

That’s as far as his remorse went, though, as the conservative firebrand continues his re-emergence to promote his new book and rail against the political establishment that largely abandoned him after his controversial comments.

Palin did speak against Todd Akin, but only in light of her opinion that another in Missouri could take the reins from him and defeat McCaskill. Boots on the ground in Missouri knew that was not going to happen -- not enough time and no strong contender. Akin was the only one in position with eyes on target -- he was the only opportunity for success. Mitt Romney and Karl Rove also spoke against Todd Akin. Do you really think they are on Team Barracuda? As for the Tea Party ... well I *am* tea party, and I would have happily voted for Akin.

The tea parties and Palin opposed Akin in the primary, and then asked him to withdraw after he won it with his 36%.

Akin was another Bachmann/Huckabee mistake.

Nobody paid any attention to Todd since the last election. Now that election time is approaching, state-controlled media wants to dredge him up for their never-ending “Republican war on women” extravaganza.

Hard to say they had to "dredge him up" - he wrote a book, he is promoting his book, and he is apparently trying to salvage some sort of public career. Is the media happy to let him keep digging a hole for himself (and, more importantly, for other Republicans)? Of course. But Akin knew (or should have known) that would happen. The blame for any damage to other Republicans should fall squarely on Akin's shoulders for deciding to publish the book and open his mouth now.

She wanted him to step aside because she believed another in Missouri could take the reins from him and defeat McCaskill. Palin advocated Sarah Steelman ... makes sense as Steelman endorsed John McCain's 2000 presidential bid. In the primary Steelman acquired 29% of the vote compared to Akins 36%. She wasn't even second runner up as Brunner took 30% of the vote. Mitt Romney was a 3rd place finisher on his first presidential bid -- how did that turn out for him next time around? Steelman did not stand a chance. Akin was the only candidate in position -- and he would have been a reliably Constitutional conservative voter. The GOP-E and Republican lemmings screwed the pooch and we lost a Senate seat.
