Governor Deval Patrick on Wednesday said he wanted to find a way for Massachusetts to help alleviate the crisis of children seeking to cross the US-Mexico border, avoiding the type of feud with the White House into which other governors have been drawn, and invoking powerful imagery as his motivation.
“My inclination is to remember what happened when a shipful of Jewish children tried to come to the United States in 1939 and the United States turned them away, and many of them went to their deaths in Nazi concentration camps,” Patrick said when a reporter asked how he viewed the border crisis. “I think we are a bigger-hearted people than that as Americans, and certainly as residents of Massachusetts.”
He added, “Now getting from there to a practical solution, I have not done yet. I’m trying to think that through.”
Patrick said his immediate challenge was finding where in Massachusetts to house the children as the federal government, which he said would pay for the assistance, determines how to handle the nearly 60,000 children estimated to have migrated from Central America.
The message from the federal government, Patrick said, was essentially: “What can you do if anything to help shelter these children while they’re being processed?”
Estimates for how many children Massachusetts could be asked to shelter, he said, had not yet arrived.
“They’re not saying and haven’t asked that we take a certain number,” Patrick said.
His invocation of the Holocaust appears to correspond to the story of the St. Louis, a ship that sailed from Germany in the spring of 1939 carrying roughly 900 Jewish refugees. The ship was forced to return to Europe, where more than a quarter are known to have died in the Holocaust, according to the United State Holocaust Memorial Museum.

yes, we turned them away. So did Cuba and Canada. Did we know that they would return to Hamburg? Of course not. We also deported 2 million Mexicans, closed all immigration, and then instituted very strict quotas and qualifications for the trickle of immigrants that were let in. I guess it’s easy to forget that America was struggling through The Great Depression at the time, and fighting for it’s own existence.

Each one of these illegal minors is costing us about $200 per day. That’s $73,000 per year. Tell her she should have to pay for them. That should pull on he purse strings more than her heart strings.
And most aren’t minors. Minors are being used by the media to pull on her heart strings.
Two points:
First of all, over the years, many of these true refugees returned to thank the people of Oswego, and as a History student in college I interviewed a few and to compare what they went through to illegally crossing the border is ABSURD and borderline antisemitic, Govt Patrick!
Secondly, while in this case I think it was deserving and the right thing to do— let these Jewish refugees stay, it just goes to show once we let people in they will never be sent back. Deal with the gangs in Central America if you must, but don't import their future members here and call them refugees! (I know not all but I don't know who, so I'm willing to send them home and help to make that home country a bit safer on a limited basis.)
What is frightening there are people in the U.S. ignorant enough to buy these lies from government. Very disturbing.
However even worse, I'm convinced the others supporting this type of country killing propaganda are in on the con-job to literally destroy the once sovereign united America. To do what those in government are doing to us and our country, they must severely hate America and have contempt everything it once stood for.
so, we’re talking about a guy we can all agree, with absolute certainty, he believes in the phony separation of church and state, and i’m sure believes religion should play zero part in government. but, when asked once about how we should treat illegals, he said he would follow scripture.
so pretty much, any normal discussion about what he thinks is pretty much worthless.

Hey, Gov. ....Just send all those younguns to Provincetown. Many would be welcomed with open arms and the MS-13 bunch would find a welcome group of buyers.
