Defense lawyers in the Jesse Ventura defamation case rolled out a parade of witnesses Wednesday claiming Ventura got punched out in a California bar.
Thats the claim in the best-selling war memoir American Sniper by the deceased author Chris Kyle. Its about to be made into a movie.
But the bar fight is a claim Ventura says never happened.
For the last two days, Navy SEALs have claimed in court that they saw one part or another of the bar fight. Ventura, described in the book as scruff face, is accused of shooting off his mouth about the war and Navy SEALs, and getting punched out.
On Wednesday, one SEAL said he saw it all. Jeremiah Dinnell told the 10-person jury he witnessed the scuffle between Ventura and Kyle.
Dinnell said Ventura was loudly criticizing the war in Iraq to active duty Navy SEALs, who were attending a funeral wake.
According to Dinnell, Ventura told the SEALs: You guys deserve to lose some guys over there.
Dinnell said Ventura was in an aggressive stance when Kyle hit him.
But Venturas lawyers say Dinnells story has changed since Ventura filed the lawsuit two years ago. They say Dinnell changed his story so that it more closely resembles the account in Kyles book.
However, when he was questioned by lawyers, Dinnell said he remembered Venturas exact words.
Dinnell, like Kyle, was also a sniper in Iraq and Afghanistan. In court, he said he had 47 confirmed kills.
And Jesse thought his pathetic reputation was tarnished BEFORE the trial.
He was UDT, eight years before they were absorbed into the SEALS. He never saw combat.
The case is civil suit.
Navy SEAL background controversy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_Ventura#Navy_SEAL_background_controversy
In a Youtube video by Retired US Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer (and Navy SEAL) Don Shipley, Shipley explains that Ventura was UDT and not a “SEAL”, but that at the time Ventura went through training, SEALS and UDT attended the same training and then were assigned to either UDT or a SEAL Team.
Although Ventura was not on a SEAL Team, he completed the same training and just happened to be assigned to a UDT Team rather than a SEAL Team.
I’m thinking about suing Ventura for personal trauma and deprivation of basic sustenance.
Years ago, when Jesse was governor of Minnesota, I was doing some employee training at our sister factory in Northern Ireland. After a long day at the plant, I stopped off at a pub for some surf and turf. Bass Ale and a steak.
When out in public, we always got the question about where in America we were from. (Our ‘accents’ always gave us away)
“Minnesota”, I replied.
The man sitting next to me at the rail began laughing. He says...”Ya got that effin’ goofy wrassler fer a guvner!
Embarrassed, I slunk from pub, leaving behind my Bass and half of my dinner.
Went to bed that night, crying, hungry and sober.
I think I’ve got a case.
Which met the much older truism of "Don't let your mouth write checks that your azz can't cash." I believe the old beat the new into a pulp.
Thanks, that is interesting.
It doesn’t sound like he had the right to claim that he was a Seal. Maybe he actually didn’t do so but he clearly didn’t correct anyone who did say he was.
Can someone say something so rude, cruel or provocative that the recipient is justified in kicking the guy’s ass?I would really like to hear your answer.
Jesse Ventura completed the *common BUD/S* training, and then he was sent to UDT.
Those BUD/S graduates who went to UDT, continued with UDT training.
Those BUD/S graduates who went to SEAL, continue with SEAL training.
In other words, the training diverges after BUD/S. Jesse Ventura completed *only* the common training to the point of graduation from BUD/S.
Jesse has an older brother, Jan Janos, who was BUD/S 49, who became a SEAL; Jesse was BUD/S 58 ... somewhat spurred on because of his older brother’s experience, IIRC.
Eight years after Jesse left service in UDT (he left in 1975), UDT members underwent training to become members of SEAL operations and teams.
Not entirely true. He completed UDT training the SEAL teams did additional training.
“The first two teams were formed in January 1962[22] and stationed on both US coasts: Team One at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, in San Diego, California and Team Two at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Formed entirely with personnel from UDTs, the SEALs mission was to conduct counter guerilla warfare and clandestine operations in maritime and riverine environments.[7] Men of the newly formed SEAL Teams were trained in such unconventional areas as hand-to-hand combat, high-altitude parachuting, demolitions, and foreign languages. The SEALs attended Underwater Demolition Team replacement training and they spent some time training in UDTs. Upon making it to a SEAL team, they would undergo a SEAL Basic Indoctrination (SBI) training class at Camp Kerry in the Cuyamaca Mountains. After SBI training class, they would enter a platoon and conduct platoon training.”
Since the SEAL approach was started at a time that old conspirator in chief was just 11 or 12 years old, he can’t claim to be in the first batch. While the is a citation for what BUD/s class he went through there is no indication of him actually completing a SEAL class which had numbers. Parachute, leadership, special ops....all SEAL directed are never mentioned in his CV
Active Duty ping.
I’d vote to give you lots and lots of Jesse’s money ;)
;-)
Thank you for that excellent clarification.
Mr Conspirator in chief still manages to shade the truth and dance around the obvious
An alligator mouth with a jaybird ass ... as the cajuns like to say.
“I dont think he could have gone through a political campaign without being caught if he really wasnt.”
Well, things have changed a lot over the past thirty years or so. Back when Ventura was running for Governor the Seals didn’t gave the name recognition and celebrity that they do today. So, it was much easier to get away with an untruth or a stretch of the truth than now. Also, there is a reluctance among fellow vets to challenge another’s veracity even if it’s believed or known that the truth is being spun. It’s a brotherhood thing....
Yes, I knew all of that. In other words, what you are saying is that you agree with my original post that Ventura was UDT and not SEAL. ;-)
I will try-
You are at a Wake/reception and the parents
of the fallen soldier are there-
You arrive and announce “you deserve to loose a few”
(Jesse was not at the funeral)
I am more surprised that A LOT OF OTHERS did not pile
on!!
If what I just recounted is true-(and there now have been
Multiple witnesses that have close versions to the
event) yeah punch again- and if he gets up- another
swift kick might-—Just might knock some sense into
the looooser.
Ventura was never a Seal and was never in combat.
