Dr. Ben Carson really doesn’t want to be president

I attend a fair number of political shindigs, and for the rest of you who do also, you’re probably familiar with the sight of various groups pushing to Draft Ben Carson as a potential 2016 GOP nominee. I saw them out in force at the Northeast Republican Leadership Conference this year, and they’ve been making the rounds at all the other usual confabs. But what about Dr. Carson himself? Does he really want to take the big chair? Rare conducted an interview with him this week and lobbed the usual question. The answer may prove enlightening.

Kurt Wallace: I know a lot of people have asked you ‘are you going to run for president’ my question to you is do you want to run for president? Do you want to be the president?

Ben Carson: Well, the second question is very easy – the answer is no. Why would any sane person want to do that. I mean have you noticed that everybody who goes in that office after about three years looks like they’ve been there 20 years.

Kurt Wallace: As a doctor you wouldn’t recommend things like that?

Ben Carson: It certainly was not my intention to move into the political realm. I found myself thrust there after the national prayer breakfast speech. But you know my preference would be for someone to come along who really wants to do that and understands the constitution. And understands personal freedom, responsibility. The place of the government versus the place of the people. The place of the states versus the place of the federal government. Understands business and how to get moving by deregulating in terms of the excessive regulations not the ones that are necessary. And knows how to get things done.

I agree, a state governor has the requisite experience.

As an ex governor Jeb Bush has the experience... but I sure hope he is not the nominee.

Carson would be shred into pieces.... a nice man, precisely why does not belong with the sharks. We need a FIGHTER who can fight fire with fire. Ted Cruz is one. Palin is another, although I question whether or not Palin can tolerate the venomous heat. She certainly could not while she was a governor. If Perry was not so retarded, he could have been FORMIDABLE!

I like him, I admire him, but I do not want Dr. Carson to run for President.

Same here. He's a great man. I'd hate to see him lowering himself. If I see him go to Iowa and endorse ethanol or Miami and support sugar subsidies, it'll be sick.

The greatest statesmen are still just politicians.

The nominee has to get through the primaries—there is no way that Jeb Bush will win the nomination. In the old days, he could have, when the nomination was decided at the convention by the party insiders. Even if the party insiders wanted him in 2016, it won’t matter. He might win the Florida primary but I can’t picture him coming in first or second anywhere else.

DUHHH!

I recall some freepers here who refused to take ‘Hell NO’ as an answer from Jim DeMint in 2011.
(I saw this on Cavuto’s show)

He said hell no because he meant it.

He isn’t ready. I would love to see him as a Senator, though.

I very much agree with that position.

I agree with you. People who don’t think Dr. Carson is “ready” are unwittingly playing into the professional politician game. The Founding Fathers never intended our government to be a career where the people we voted to represent us fall into line, wait for their turn, try to play nice for committee appointments, etc.

How about Secretary of Health and Human Services?

Far better would be to eliminate the HHS department and all the rest, including but not limited to: EPA, HEW, NLRB, OSHA, FDA, NOAA, USDA...and many, many, many more. They're all run by a bunch of pointy-headed, pencil-necked geeks successful only in placing constraints on freedom.

I don’t think one need be “an insider” to be a good President. I believe Allen West would be an excellent President, for example.

Perhaps NOT being your normal politician is exactly what is needed to rescue the country.

I don’t think Carson, Cruz, or West are politicians. I think they are passionate American patriots.

Cruz/Carson or Cruz/West would do a fine job of returning your nation to its people, and to its former great standing in the world.

A lot of scam artists are making money “consulting” off of this “Draft Ben Carson PAC”. I’m real sick and tired of those “donate to me” emails, especially by groups that waste money meant for campaigns.

Well the chief dangers seem to be (1) You will age quickly (2) You might get shot

3. Your family is under a microscope.
4. You have no private life.

If he doesn’t want to be President, IMHO that makes him perfect for the job.

I love this man. He is a great spokesman for our cause. He is naive on many issues that are essential. Illegal immigration and his 2nd Amendment positions are not what we need at this time.

People of good will (in the Lord) ought to consider such a sacrifice.

Are YOU willing to put yourself out there and make that sacrifice? I don't mean that as an attack, but it's a lot to ask. Personally, I think I'd make a great president. But would I want everything (real or perceived) I've done wrong in my life out there? No. And I've never been arrested, been accused of a crime, etc.

It is a LOT to ask, at least of decent people who are not perfect and know that their personal destruction will be order #1.

You mean being an honest, God fearing American doesn’t qualify him? I am sick to death of those with long resumes. Including the current Dictator in Chief

He seems like a decent and generally impressive man. But he’s pro-amnesty and he lacks political experience and a voting record. I wish he wouldn’t talk about or consider running at all.

“I just finished watching Gifted hands 2 minutes ago.”

It is a great film, and you know what...? If he does decided to run for president, the libs will spin him as being an idiot and do everything they can to bring him down. It’s our crazy (end) times. They call Obama, who doesn’t know how many states are in the U.S., a genius, and will somehow make people believe that Carson is stupid.

BTW, my BIL was managing a major healthcare project in the private sector, and Dr. Carson was involved in some of the meetings. BIL didn’t know exactly who he was, and was surprised to learn later that this very humble and unassuming man was a national treasure and a “rock star” of sorts.

Reagan didn't.

Not to put the good doctor in the same category, but neither did George Washington want the job.
