Definitely!

As for gluten, we ditched gluten as a family 2 years ago to see what would happen and several family members improved certain areas of their health dramatically. One example is that 2 weeks into it my son’s daily headaches just stopped.

There are many in-depth scientific studies done showing the adverse effect of gluten on the average Joe. So, not sure what this Bruce guy is talking about.

I watch people who think they are gluten free eating all sorts of gluten. Gluten is in damn near everything. Salad dressings, condiments, etc. It is very difficult to go truly gluten free.

I tried it some years ago, before it was trendy. I was down to about 25 foods I could eat. I think I lasted about 90 days. I don't remember if I felt better.

ignorant making that statement.

“To meet the body’s daily nutritional needs while minimizing risk for chronic disease, adults should get 45% to 65% of their calories from carbohydrates, 20% to 35% from fat, and 10% to 35% from protein.

There is only one way to get fiber — eat plant foods. Plants such as fruits and vegetables are quality carbohydrates that are loaded with fiber. Studies show an increased risk for heart disease with low-fiber diets. There is also some evidence to suggest that fiber in the diet may also help to prevent colon cancer and promote weight control.”

There’s nothing wrong with carbs. It’s what you do WITH the carbs. Carbs are engery, eat em and sit on your couch and bad things happen; eat em on a hike or before hitting the bike trail and they’ll help you finish the trip safely.

Complex carbs (starches), good; simple carbs (sugars with no nutrients), bad.

You are right, of course. I don’t believe a damn thing coming from the “experts”. They have been wrong so many time, on so many topics related to health, that I don’t know how ANYONE can believe them.

Avoiding (or at least minimizing) carbs, and now avoiding gluten has NOTHING TO DO with Big Medicine - they haven’t changed their tune a bit and I doubt they ever will - the push to get this stuff our of our diet is by a small group of people with really nothing to gain other than, maybe, book royalties. The ones pushing the status quo are looking at huge research grants and also liability protection (i.e., if you tell diabetics to eat carbs, as the government does, then you can’t be sued when they get sicker...since you are following government guidelines - but do the opposite, and you might go broke).

But the funny thing is that Americans are getting SICKER and FATTER by the year, and, especially, diabetes is going through the roof - and why? Because people listen to Big Medicine (which, of course, is in bed with big government).

I am very sorry, but I just can't stand by and not comment on this nonsense. You and many others here are victims of ad campaigns designed to sell “protein bars”, “muscle powder”, frozen dinners and other processed foods that have few or no “carbs”. It is a bad joke! There is nothing inherently bad about foods that contain carbohydrates. Many foods that contain carbohydrates are extremely rich in nutrients and very good for you. Many foods that have no carbohydrates are highly processed and have basically almost no nutritional value.

There is no substitute for common sense and moderation in all things. Common sense tells us that highly processed low carb foods with highly processed added nutrients are probably not as good for you as fruits and vegetables that come from your garden that just happen to be high in "carbs". Use your brains people.
