The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, criticized for manipulating temperature records to create a warming trend, has now been caught warming the past and cooling the present.
July 2012 became the hottest month on record in the U.S. during a summer that was declared too hot to handle by NASA scientists. That summer more than half the country was experiencing drought and wildfires had scorched more than 1.3 million acres of land, according to NASA.
According to NOAAs National Climatic Data Center in 2012, the average temperature for the contiguous U.S. during July was 77.6°F, 3.3°F above the 20th century average, marking the warmest July and all-time warmest month on record for the nation in a period of record that dates back to 1895.

I think this is an example of someone trying to slip something under the radar ON A HEAVY NEWS DAY
NOAA has been caught with its hands in the COOKIE JAR, and is now repenting for that...
In 2012, NOAA ordered 46,000 rounds of hollow point bullets.
The weather is whatever NOAA now says it is!

I love how these A-holes constantly try to link wildfire numbers with their stupid global warming hoax.
Most people are to stupid to realize that the numbers of fires and sizes are a result of poor to non-existent management of public land forests managed by the US Forest Circus and the Bureau of Land Mismanagement.
The whole thing is a hoax and NOAA’s budget should be severely cut.
Obviously, NOAA is racist.
Must have been on Lois Lerner's disk drive.
Take that as an example - they’re going to collapse the entire worldwide economic system
AND BLAME YOU.
Yes, and inflation is rising at a tame rate.
Can I have another grain of salt?
Heat.. Kitchen .. YadA yada .. Cooked numbers reflect badly on management
We don’t need politicization of the weather..
We can all see which way the wind blows these days.
There has been no warming in 15 years, but every year NOAA blithely claims the last was the hottest on record - and the press prints it without asking any questions.
Whew! Glad I was in diapers during the summer of 1936!
LIES ARE US! No Accuracy Needed in the Weather Bureau
So we can have a hottest day again.
My grandfather was trying to raise crops and cattle back then. My grandmother told us about how hard times were back then. The depression was still ongoing, crops were burning up in the sun, hay was hard to come by and their herd was getting awfully skinny. And no one was talking about global warming. It was just a very hot summer.
Don’t confuse us in the National Weather Service with NOAA. Yes, we are part of NOAA, but the NOAA hierarchy marches to their own drummer. NOAA is not well respected by the NWS rank and file. The NWS deals with shorter range forecasting, and does not get involved with climate change issues for the most part. Most of the NWS operational forecasters don’t buy into the man-made climate change hype. Is there climate change? Of course. There has always been, and always will be. Climate never has been a constant.
As a NWS guy can you explain how the daily climate report "Departure from Normal" and "Degree Days" are calculated? I follow the weather for La Crosse, Wisconsin. In the Daily Climate Report the Observed Values (today's high and low) appear to be most often rounded up in the Average Value. The "Normal Values" appear to be rounded down in the Average Values. That, of course, makes the Departure from Normal value higher than the data actually supports. That, in turn, supports the theory of global warming.
Am I missing something? I'll confess that the rounding is not perfectly consistent, which might be a way of creating a little wiggle room if someone is looking over your data.
Thanks!
Lets hope they maintain some integrity while working on nautical charts. on the ocean it doesn’t matter if you know where you are via GPS if the chart says 1000 fathoms and in reality the water is only 2 feet deep. depth guage not withstanding.
Depart from Normal is “supposed” to be simply the difference between the average of the daily high and low temps and the average of the normal high and low temps for that particular day. It is computed automatically from the observed data. Not sure about how it is rounded, other than to expect that any fractions .5 or higher would be rounded up. Degree days is the difference between the average temp for the day and 65 deg. Above 65 would be cooling degrees and below 65 would be heating degrees. Just an arbitrary figure generally used to estimate energy usage. Doubt there is any conspiracy here. The NWS is pretty picky about data accuracy. About the only time I see upper management manipulate data is to save budget bucks.
