Don't buy his populist rhetoric. The new pope is every bit the sexist homophobe as his predecessors...
While the pope transmits a populist vibeparticularly about the economy he is an old-school conservative who, despite his great PR, maintains nearly all of the socialpolicies of his predecessors and keeps up a hardline Vatican cabinet.

As a Protestant, knowing this makes me warm to the Pope....thanks, Anna March, for helping me like him more. Knowing you liberals TRULY hate anything that smells of true Christianity (and I am not saying I agree with all of Francis' theology) helps me understand we are on the right path.
Perhaps she means, "The new pope is every bit the sexist homophobe his predecessors were." Anyway, it's nice that she noticed.
No hatred here.
It horrifies them that the Pope is a “believer.” They’d rather he was more like the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church.
Why would anyone bother with “Salon?”
It’s Marxist moonbat central.
Pope Francis is very different in style and words than either the philosopher Saint Pope John Paul II the Great or the theologian Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI ... only because he believes his papacy to be the evangelizer to the world to grow the body of Christ in the authentic Catholic faith, of which he is every bit the "son of the Church" that his predecessors in the Chair of Peter were.
We first needed the foundation of the philosopher and the theologian in order for the fruits of the evangelizer to be bountiful as possible.
They do occasionally provide something useful:

Yes, by the left’s definition, Christian believers are “sexist homophobes”...
And I think it’s a good thing to be hated by leftists, shows you’re on the correct side of eternity.
Anna March is every bit the popephobe her colleagues are.
Coming from this crowd, it’s sort of good news.
Barking moonbats though they are.
This is what compromising with ‘rats gets you...
Perhaps she has forgotten that it can be honorable
to think, speak, and act under Authority
Once one places themselves under the Authority of
God, Scriptures, Tradition (in that order)
what one thinks, says, and does is defined.
One might ask under what authority
this writer is applying Judgment.
Perhaps anger, ignorance, and Hubris.
I would be suspicious of any Christian that "Salon" actually liked ... Pope should take this screed as high praise.
She’s insinuating that the pope is Catholic.
"Further, it is ludicrous to suggest that a man who denies comprehensive reproductive health care (including all forms of birth control including condoms and abortion) and comprehensive family planning is a man who cares about the poor of this world.
And there you have it. For the left, it all comes down to killing babies.
This is a great example of Liberal smear tactics. Anyone who disagrees with them is automatically a bigot/racist/etc, and therefore isn’t worth debating.
The assumption is that we are so atrocious, that they shouldn’t have to discuss or compromise with us.
The irony is that she is clearly the bigot, hating on Catholics in the most vicious way. I am not certain, but I think most folks have had enough of this liberal BS, and it’s starting to wear thin. We’ll see this fall.
I hope it makes a lot of people warm to him. After all, it’s great that he at least upholds some key issues.
It’s great to hear that from her, whether or not she realizes that.
Whew! I'm so relieved.
“Shes insinuating that the pope is Catholic.”
LOL! Great answer!
Absolutely.
