White House press secretary Jay Carney says he never lied to the press corps during his three and a half years as the top presidential spokesman.
Honestly, it's not because Im a paragon of virtue, its because that would be a terrible way to do the job, Carney told reporters at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast.
The press secretary admitted that he sometimes could not or did not want to answer questions posed by reporters.
What you do when you cant say is you dont, Carney said. You take the question or you explain what you can.
Carney will leave his post as press secretary on Friday. His deputy, Josh Earnest, is slated to take over his position.
Opponents of the administration have accused the longtime press secretary of occasionally playing fast and loose with the truth. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) blasted him last summer as a paid liar for his explanation of the Internal Revenue Services targeting of conservative political groups.
The administration is still, their paid liar, their spokesperson, picture behind, hes still making up things about what happened and calling this local rogue, Issa told CNN.

Did he ever tell the truth?
Parsing. He didn’t ‘lie’. He simply did his job reading a script. As a spokesman, his words are not ‘his’. Ergo ‘he’ did mot lie.
A lie. No. Millions of lies, yes.
He just spoke the truth as he was told was the truth which had nothing to do with the truth.
Exactly. that is how they think. Ergo it is not a lie.
Yes, they really do rationalize that way. The problem is that we refuse to believe it.
More accurate... “I never gave a straight answer.”
You ask Carney what time it is and you get a dissertation on the various kinds of watches and locations of clocks.
Exactly
“The Benghazi consulate was attacked because of an anti-Mohammed video.”
Just think, he’s quitting because there’s something he wouldn’t do that his replacement is willing to do.
But he was merely repeating the truth as he knew it. That he was in on it is not the thing. The thing is that “Carney” was like a car speaker relaying the sounds from the admin. “HE’ did not lie.
The proper question to carney is “Did you knowingly repeat things you personally knew to be false.”
Now of course, a sane person knows that carney lied daily. But that is our world. In their world he did not. Thats the difference.
He willfully lied about the WH talking points; he himself was one of the recipients listed in the memo written by Ben Rhodes. Yet he said the WH had no role in the talking points.
He never told a lie; he always told multiple lies.
Sorry, Norm, that’s just too nuanced for me. Carney is a liar AFAIC. ;-)
One final Lie to cover all his previous ones...
This ‘Carney’ belongs on the County Fair Circuit. HOW DO THESE PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT?? They obviously don’t believe in God or they wouldn’t be so cavalier with their blatant lies. They don’t ever expect to be held accountable for their behavior on Earth.
Of course! ;) But the nuance BS is WHY he can stand there, all the libs can stand there and defend it. Because it is all a big word game most people don’t even know is being played.
Orwell was a prophet. Or the unwitting father of the modern left. Because he wrote the literal book on it. Believe that.
Do that long enough and often enough and you can get out of answering questions without technically having to lie.
You see that with the new guy, too: "You've never heard of a computer crashing before?"
I suppose they actually do lie a lot, but it's those zingers that convey false ideas without technically being lies that get people's attention, and allow press secretaries to maintain that they don't literally lie.
