Full title: MORE boots on the ground: Obama expected to send 100 Green Berets to Iraq to 'train forces' days after deploying 275 Marines to protect Baghdad embassy
President Barack Obama will announce his intention to send 100 Green Berets into Iraq to help train and advise the Iraqi military this afternoon, a U.S. official told the Associated Press.
The Special Forces will not be there to engage in combat and Obama still has no plans to engage Islamic insurgents in Iraq militarily, AP says.
Obama is expected to make statement on the matter within in the hour after he concludes a meeting with his national security advisers.

We spent years training the Iraqi army and where did it get us? al-Maliki put his own incompetents in charge based on loyalty rather than ability and the army folded. What are 100 additional trainers supposed to accomplish and with who?

We already spent years with tens of thousands of trainers to train this army. So, how exactly are a few hundred trainers supposed to change anything?
The clown in the White House is sending in troops piecemeal, a recipe for military disaster. One can only hope that the guys can hold off 100,000 screaming Muzzie fanatics. If they cannot hold them off their deaths will be horrific.

Well to be fair SF has a very multi purposed role of which training locals in situ is a key part. It looks like my brother will be sent if training is their primary focus.

I think all Americans should leave. Abandon the Embassy in Baghdad and get out entirely. I’m sorry about the past and American lives lost but this is just foolhardy.
How about being consistant in current events? Obama is demanding that Maliki be more inclusive if he wants help. At the same time he's supporting Nazi thugs in Kiev who don't have any interest whatsoever about being inclusive for ethnic Russians in Ukraine.
And MORE regime change?? It hasn't worked real well anywhere. Now's a chance to actually lay down some specific conditions if Maliki gets support. Otherwise, ISIS will end up being fully entrenched in Sunni areas.
